It was first reported on Wednesday that TUF 18 winner Julianna Pena would have to withdraw from her UFC 171 bout against Jessica Andrade due to a knee injury suffered in training. At today’s UFC 169 pre-fight media scrum White explained why he advised Pena to “leave that gym now” as he recounted the story as it was told to him immediately after the incident by the “Venezuelan Vixen” herself.
The decision isn’t official but UFC President Dana White has said that the much anticipated matchup between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort is likely to take place on Memorial Day weekend. The date is May 24, and would be the second title defense for Weidman since dethroning Anderson Silva at UFC 162, and beating him again last month at UFC 168.
The purpose of a trainer is to provide the athlete with the necessary tools to improve his/her performance. A trainer’s goal is to create an environment where an athlete acquires effective behavior rapidly. During training, a trainer must make it a priority to create opportunities to expose a particular weakness and enhance physical/mental strength in their athlete. Since you (the athlete) is the one performing, their job (the trainer’s) is to increase your ability to make fast and effective decisions under stress. NOT to make the decisions for you.
