Gilbert Melendez to Bellator doesn’t change the MMA landscape at all

Gilbert Melendez

We reported earlier this week that top five lightweight Gilbert Melendez had agreed in principle to sign with Bellator MMA after negotiations with the UFC fell through. Former UFC middleweight Chris "The Crippler" Leben retired early this year after spending nearly a decade fighting inside the Octagon. Despite 22 fights in pro MMA's premiere organization and all the bonuses he'd won, Leben posted on Twitter today that the UFC left him "broken with nothing" and he wished he'd been a truck driver instead.
