Top Japanese wrestler Katsuya Kitamura signs with Sengoku

On Sunday, Sengoku Raiden Championship announced the signing of Katsuya Kitamura to a developmental contract. Kitamura in a two time All-Japan Wrestling Champion and, in 2009, also claimed the All-Japan Emperor’s Trophy Championship.

According to the report published by NightmareofBattle.com, Kitamura currently plans on training for the 2012 Olympic games in London. He will look to represent Japan in Greco Roman at either 96 or 120 kg. After the games, he will begin to fully prepare for a career in MMA.

The wrestling standout will join current Sengoku training player, Shigeki Osawa who is also aiming to compete in 2012. Osawa signed with Sengoku as a developmental prospect in early 2009. He currently holds a 6-1 record with his only loss coming against Ronnie Mann.

In January of this year, Kitamura represented Japan in a series of Greco-Roman dual meets against the United States called The Kit Carson Cup. Kitamura went 0-4 with losses against John Lorenz, Justin Ruiz, Robbie Smith and Zac Nielsen. Ruiz will represent the U.S. at the upcoming FILA Wrestling World Championships in September.
