Randy says Fedor would “tear Brock up”

A battered Randy Couture shares his thoughts on what happened in his fight with Brock Lesnar at UFC 91. When asked if he thought Brock was more of a threat than Fedor at this point he says no way. Guess he hasn’t heard that Fedor just lost at the Sambo Championships. Please like & share:

UFC 91 Live Gate

At the post fight press conference Dana White announced UFC 91 took in $4.8 million at the gate. The MGM Grand Garden Arena drew a crowd of 14,272, nearly a sell out.

Billed as the “biggest fight in UFC history” the card did not disappoint at the box office.

While the UFC’s pay-per-view numbers traditionally do not get released, they are required by state law to make their live gate numbers public.

UFC 91 earned the recognition of being the fourth highest grossing live gate in the company’s history. With UFC 66, 83 and 79 ahead of Saturday’s card.

Lesnar helps make case for weight class change

As Randy Couture stepped into the Octagon tonight at UFC 91 and stood toe to toe with Brock Lesnar at the stare down I actually became afraid for the Champ.

It was only then that I finally realized just how enormous Brock Lesnar really is.

The size difference was so great one must wonder, how is this even fair? This got me to thinking, why in the world is the weight category for heavyweight so large?

UFC 91 results & live play-by-play

Mark Bocek (155) vs. Alvin Robinson (155)
Rd.1 – Alvin Robinson barely survives a north/south choke submission from Bocek and is saved by the bell.
Rd.2 – Lots of scrambling on the ground. Tactical ground battle.
Rd.3 – Bocek slams Robinson with a big one. Bocek gets side control then gets full mount. Robinson gives up his back and Bocek finally gets the choke. Mark Bocek defeats Alvin Robinson by submission (rear naked choke) in round 3.

Jorge Gurgel (155) vs. Aaron Riley (156)
Rd.1 – Nice exchanges by Gurgel.
Rd.2 – Lots of exchanges by both guys. Riley lands some good head kicks and punches. Gurgel got a takedown at the end of the round.
Rd.3 – Aaron Riley really got the best of Gurgel this round. He rocked Gurgel badly with a head kick and just out struck Gurgel the whole round. Gurgel punches slowed as he visibly tired. Aaron Riley defeats George Gurgel by unanimous decision.

The legacy of Jake Shields

Jake Shields was arguably the most talented fighter on Pro Elite’s roster.

Now that the company has closed its doors Shields will undoubtedly be looking to sign with a promotion where he can truly test his skills.

While his status within the 170 pound division is cemented in the minds of hardcore MMA fans, he has yet to tap his full potential.

In order to reach that point, he will have to take a huge step up in competition.
