Georges St. Pierre talks Fitch battle & picks winner of Hughes vs. Serra

Georges St. Pierre talked about his fight with Jon Fitch at UFC 87 with Toronto Sports Radio a few days ago. GSP compared Fitch to “The Terminator” and said it was “very discouraging” because he could not finish him. At one point GSP said he was praying while inside the cage because Fitch, the beast, would not go down. GSP decided to go for the knockout instead of submission because so many have tried in vain to submit Fitch.

GSP is headed to Brazil to vacation and to do some BJJ training.

It seems Matt Hughes left his seat at UFC 87 during the GSP vs. Fitch fight and exited the arena because “it was a boring fight and St. Pierre wasn’t showing anything.” Wow. Does anyone believe for a second that is the real reason, if Hughes did indeed get up and walk out? Rather, one might be inclined to believe that the former welterweight champ was turning a bright shade of green and had to flee the scene before anyone noticed.

ShoXC: Elite Challenger Series Weigh In Results

by:  Cory Brady

All fighters on tonight’s ShoXC card live on Showtime have been weighed in and are ready for battle. The main event of tonight’s card features a rematch from a previous ShoXC fight between Jared Hamman and Poai Suganuma . The bout ended somewhat controversially and had many asking for a rematch. In their first fight Suganuma landed a hard overhand right just seconds into the bout, which he followed with a devastating flying knee that left Hamman crumpled on the canvas. The referee stepped in quickly only to have Hamman jump to his feet protesting what seemed like a questionable stoppage. This fight should bring some closure between the potential stars and answer some questions as to which man just may be poised for the limelight.

Dream Middleweight Semifinal Breakdown

by: Cory Brady

The matchups for the Dream Middleweight Grand Prix semifinals on Sept. 23 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan have been released at last. In one half of the semifinals Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will battle Zelg Galesic while Melvin Manhoef will take on Gegard Mousasi in the second half. The winners of these two elimination bouts will move on to face one another that evening in the cards main event.

Melvin Manhoef is an extremely aggressive and punishing striker that fights out of Amsterdam. He is a K-1 veteran and he boasts a kickboxing record of 34-4 with 25 of those wins coming by knockout. On the MMA side of things Manhoef holds a 22-4 record and has knocked out 21 of the 22 men he has beaten. Melvin is an absolute whirlwind of violence when the bell rings and has the kind of power in his fists that is reminiscent of a young Mike Tyson. Over the last two years Melvin has dropped two fights by armbar but has compiled a five fight knockout streak with his most recent win coming over submission wizard Kazushi Sakuraba and looks to be back on track.
