Absolute Action MMA will hold an all female mixed martial arts card on Oct. 2 in Florence, Ky., to help raise money for patients and families dealing with breast cancer.

The weigh-ins for Friday’s Strikeforce – Challengers Series 5 took place today at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. The event, which features a welterweight headliner between undefeated Tyron Woodley and Rudy Bears, airs Nov. 20 on Showtime beginning at 10 p.m CT / 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on west coast).

There was only one fighter on the card that did not make weight. Brian Davidson, who is fighting Russel Patrick in a featherweight *145 lbs.) match on the preliminary card, came in weighing 147 lbs. Other than that, everyone was spot on.

Live MMA action returns to Showtime on Friday, Nov. 20: “Strikeforce – Challengers Series 5” preview

KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Strikeforce returns to action with Strikeforce – Challengers Series 5 Friday night, Nov. 20, 2009, at Kansas City Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. The main event features a welterweight bout between undefeated submission phenom Tyron Woodley (5-0) taking on fast-rising Rudy Bears (10-3), who is on a six-fight win-streak.

Woodley has submitted all five of the opponents he has faced. Woodley’s first pro fight was in 2006, and he submitted Alex Carter via rear-naked choke. Woodley had no professional MMA bouts from 2007-2008, but he returned to competition this year with a bang.

Woodley has already fought four times this year, and submitted every one of his opponents (one was due to strikes). Four of his five victories have come in the first round, and his most recent victory, over Zach Light at Strikeforce – Challengers 3, came via armbar in the second round.

Kim Couture set to fight Miesha Tate at ShoMMA: Strikeforce Challengers May 15th

PRO MMA (promma.info) has learned from multiple sources that Kim “Sugar Free” Couture (1-1) has accepted a fight with Miesha “Takedown” Tate (6-1) as part of Showtime’s “ShoMMA: Strikeforce Challengers”, which will take place on May 15th in Fresno, California.

Couture, the wife of UFC legend Randy Couture, lost her very first MMA bout to Kim Rose on June 20th of last year by unanimous decision. Even in her defeat she gained a lot of respect and showed her toughness by finishing the fight with a broken jaw she received early in round one.

SHO MMA: Strikeforce Challenger series debuts May 15

In addition to the regular events STRIKEFORCE will be airing on Showtime, they will also be airing fights from their developmental league. This will be a “proving ground” of sorts where fighters can not only gain valuable experience but can also earn the chance to fight on one of the big shows and in the future possibly on CBS. PRO MMA (promma.info) received the following information today from STRIKEFORCE regarding their new Challenger series on Showtime:

Undefeated lightweight (155 lb. limit) sensation Billy Evangelista (9-0) will fight hard-hitting brawler and BJ Penn protégé “Iron” Mike Aina (11-6-1) in the main event of the inaugural, newly titled SHO MMA: Strikeforce Challengers series from leading MMA promoter Strikeforce and premium television network SHOWTIME, on Friday, May 15 at Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif.

Fast Eddie caught up with Randy and Kim Couture following her first round victory in Strikforce on Friday November 21st.  Randy gave us his predictions on the Frank Mir and Antonio Noguiera fight, his contract status,  and his thoughts on his wife’s performance.  Kim talked about her fight, Gina Carano’s future plans, as well as her own promotional plans for the coming year.
