Gabriel Gonzaga disappointed with UFC heavyweight division’s lack of BJJ skills

Gabriel Gonzaga UFC

When Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga talks about BJJ, you want to listen. And when he talks about BJJ for MMA, you definitely want to listen. UFC caliber Heavyweights are a rare breed as it is. But UFC caliber Heavyweights with a high level submission game are like unicorns.

Pro MMA Now Radio returns with UFC heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga, Rose Namajunas and Chad George at 10 p.m. ET

We are here tonight to end or start your week, however you see it. It is that time of the week for another Pro MMA Now Radio and tonight we have much to discuss in the world of mixed martial arts.

Gabriel Gonzaga returns to the UFC January 14 in Rio

Gabriel “Napão” Gonzaga will make his return to the Octagon on January 14 when he takes on fellow Brazilian heavyweight Edinaldo Oliveira at UFC 142 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

ProMMAnow.com UFC 121 staff picks

As we do with every major card, the ProMMAnow.com staff weighs-in with their thoughts on each of the “UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez” main card bouts (and one Spike TV prelim bout as a bonus).

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Junior Dos Santos added to UFC on VERSUS March 21

The UFC’s March 21 card, which will be the UFC’s VERSUS debut, is stacking up to be a barn-burner. The UFC today announced the addition of Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga (11-4) vs. Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos (10-1) to the card, in a heavyweight showdown that is practically guaranteed not to go the distance.

Gonzaga, now going on his fifth year with the promotion, is coming off a first round TKO victory over Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 102 back in August. It was a much-needed comeback fight for Gonzaga who had been knocked out in his previous fight with Shane Carwin at UFC 96.

Gonzaga has often been hit or miss in his UFC career, but when he hits, he hits hard, and when he connects, it is usually a short night for his opponents. Gonzaga will have to bring his A-game if he wants to get past young Brazilian up-and-comer Junior dos Santos.

Shooto Brazil, UFC 102 undercard, M-1 Global, and NAAFS picks

Mo Lawal faces Mark Kerr Friday night in Kansas City at M-1 Global Breakthrough.

Recap
I said last week that there would be no excuse for a bad week, and I came through in spades. I went 10-0 with 3 NCs, which brings my overall record to 24-5 (5 NC). For those keeping track at home that is an 83% picking rate. This week should be a little tougher as we take a look at cards from the UFC, M-1 Global, Shooto Brazil, and NAAFS. As always, don’t be afraid to voice your opinion in the comment section.

Shooto Brazil 13
Siyar Bahadurzada (14-4-1) vs. Leandro Silva (14-5)
In this contest for the Shooto 183-pound world title, Sengoku veteran Siya Bahadurzada will have a clear edge in the striking department. Expect him to be able to land shots from the outside, but Silva will be able to get takedowns and implement a top game. Silva will not have the submission game to finish the fight, but he should get enough takedowns to take the fight and the title.
Pick = Leandro Silva
