UFC 107 weigh-in results

Photo by Sherdog - Diego Sanchez will try to take B.J. Penn's crown on Dec. 12 at the FedEX Forum in Memphis, Tenn.

Although the UFC’s live stream video player failed once again, our friends at the FedEX Forum in Memphis tweeted us the weigh-in results. There were chants in the audience of “Fix the scales!” as most of the fighters seemed to be coming in at least 1⁄2-1lb. over weight on their first attempt.

As expected, the face-off between main event fighters B.J. Penn and Diego Sanchez was intense. Penn, who is the UFC light heavyweight champion, will be looking to defend his title against what many consider his toughest lightweight opponent to date.

Sanchez, the challenger, was asked to say a few words after the two weighed in and stared each other in the eyes. Sanches simply stated, “Destiny baby! One word. Destiny!”

The press conference was in anticipation of Saturday’s UFC 107 card which will take place at the FedEX Forum in Memphis and is headlined with a UFC lightweight title fight between champion B.J. Penn and challenger Diego Sanchez.

In the co-main event, former UFC heavyweight champion and grappling specialist Frank Mir takes on devastating striker Cheick Kongo.

Kicking off the press conference was Steve Zito, Senior Vice President of Operations at the FedEX Forum in Memphis. Zito spoke about how great it was to have the UFC come to Memphis for the first time “I can not tell you how happy I am to be standing here today. Over three years ago we watched many MMA events by-pass Tennessee because it was illegal. We knew of the incredible potential of this sport in Tennessee and Memphis because of our previous successes with major boxing events.”

Mann Talk – Ranking the Ultimate Fighters

While watching the TUF 10 finale this past weekend, I got it into my head that I wanted to write a column saying “The Ultimate Fighter must stop now.” However, then I realized that only the most masochistic and self-flagellating fans would want this show to continue.

At this point, the show is not even entertaining. My girlfriend, the biggest reality show addict east of Los Angeles, only made it through three episodes of this season before getting bored with it. She would watch Real Housewives of Salt Lake City but TUF could not hold her attention. The only thing the show really does is supply the UFC with vast quantities of fighters that have no business is the sport’s biggest show.
