In February of this year, “Razor” Rob McCullough lost his WEC lightweight title to Jamie Varner in an upset.  The odds were stacked against Varner but he was able to pull out the win and take home the title.   Four months later “Razor Rob” stepped back into the cage and got back on the right track with a win over Kenneth Alexander at WEC 34.

“Razor Rob” wants that title back.  As far as he’s concerned, the loss to Varner was a fluke that never should have happened.  On September 10, Rob will face one of his toughest fights to date and it will be the deciding factor if he gets an immediate title shot or has to climb back up the ladder.  PRO MMA got the opportunity to chat with Rob and he explained just what this fight means to him and what kind of fireworks we can expect to see.

Rob also lets us in on some personal details about himself you may not have known such as who he would most like to fight and what is one of his favorite books.  The answers might surprise you.

PRO MMA: Thank you Rob for taking the time to speak with us at PRO MMA.
Razor Rob: Hey anytime.

PRO MMA: When I as an MMA fan think of Huntington Beach a few names pop in my mind…..Tito, Tank, and Razor Rob. Were you born and raised in Huntington Beach?
Razor Rob: Why thanks. I take that as an honor. Yes, I was born and raised in Huntington Beach and have the tattoo to prove it.

PRO MMA: Punishment Athletics is one of your sponsors is that right? How long have you known Tito and what is your relationship like with him these days?
Razor Rob: Yes Punishment is one of my big sponsors. Tito and I have known each other since high school. He’s a little older than me but I lived with friends in high school and Tito’s girlfriend, Heather, at the time had a brother named Mike who I lived at their house. So Tito and I ran into each other often. Nowadays he and I train at Huntington Beach Ultimate together on ocassion and we are currently shooting a new reality T.V. show called “Any Town Beat Down” soon on the G4 channel. Other than that, he’s one of my best friends and mentors.

PRO MMA: I think I read somewhere you used to surf. Do you still? Do you do any other sports or physical activities besides MMA?
Razor Rob: Yes I grew up surfing and snowboarding. I also dance when I’m drunk…usually just “The Robot.” Also, I scuba dive, race off-road trucks and fish.

PRO MMA: You have a big fight coming up with Donald Cerrone. What do you know about this guy and how important is this fight to you personally and professionally?
Razor Rob: This is the most important thing to me right now in my life. Everything else up unti now has been put on stand-by. My opponent is supposed to be a good Thai boxer as well as all his wins are by submission, so this fight to me, should be very exciting. I can’t wait. This also will put me back into a title shot with Varner.

PRO MMA: So you’re fighting a cowboy with submission skills. He has a pro record of 8-0, all submission wins and he’s never been out of the second round. Do you think he’s fought anyone of your caliber thus far and what is Cerrone in for when he steps into that cage with Razor Rob?
Razor Rob: I do not think he has fought anyone of my caliber and come fight night do not blink when the action starts! You are going to see a very focused and determined Razor Rob.

PRO MMA: If the fight does go to the ground does that concern you at all or do you think you’re well enough equipped no matter where the fight goes?
Razor Rob: I left all my concerns back at the gym years ago. I just hope they have paramedics near by.

PRO MMA: If you get that title shot against Varner, what would be different the second time and why?
Razor Rob: I will win! Because I should have the first time.

PRO MMA: Do you mind if I ask, how many fights are left on your WEC contract?
Razor Rob: I signed for six fights and I am currently working on number three.

PRO MMA: How many years would you anticipate you have left in the game and what more would you like to accomplish?
Razor Rob: I say at least six or seven years left. I would like to triangle Mike Tyson.

PRO MMA: Is there anyone in particular you would just love to fight but never got the opportunity?
Razor Rob: Hitler…I’m pretty sure he’s dead.

PRO MMA: I know you have a clothing company. Could you tell us a bit about that and any other things of the sort you may be involved with?
Razor Rob: Yes, I have Razor Clothing. We make girls’ clothes and guys’ gear, as well as hoodies, t-shirts, hats, and stickers. I am also currently buying beach property to sublet for additional income. I also teach MMA and Muay Thai Kickboxing at Huntington Beach Ultimate Training Center.

PRO MMA: What’s the last great movie you saw?
Razor Rob: Tropic Thunder.

PRO MMA: What’s the last great book or magazine you read?
Razor Rob: “Why We Want You to be Rich” by Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump.

PRO MMA: Do you believe in aliens?
Razor Rob: Yes, I am half-Mexican.

PRO MMA: Are you voting in the next presidential election; if so for who?
Razor Rob: I don’t know. I would rather have someone pick for me so I can at least say when they mess up I didn’t vote for them.

PRO MMA: Thanks for speaking with us Rob. Any final thoughts, words of wisdom, or shout outs?
Razor Rob: Hey thank you and go check out www.razorclothing.tv and help a brotha’ out.
