When UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya decided he was going to challenge certified killer Yoel Romero I can’t say that I wasn’t surprised. No one in their right mind calls out Romero because despite the Brazilian’s age he is still one of the most dangerous fighters to have ever walked into The Octagon.

Israel did just that after Yoel lost a bout with Paulo Costa at UFC 241 via razor thin decision. Using standard logic it didn’t make sense but from a business standpoint it definitely does. It’s a question that was going to be asked eventually anyway. Can Israel actually defeat likely the most dangerous/powerful man in the division? Can he really call himself the true champion unless he defeats Romero?

The answer is -probably – maybe.

Regardless of what your opinion is on this matchup it has been made and scheduled for UFC 248 on March 7th. The truth is that a fight against “the soldier of God“ is not an easy one and by no means a guaranteed victory for Adesanya. It appears that the oddsmakers agree. Well, at least a little.

BOVADA

Israel Adesanya -235

Yoel Romero +185

That’s a little closer than we were expecting given that on paper Yoel has dropped two in a row. He is a dangerous man no doubt but does he really have what it takes to dethrone Israel Adesanya?
