Floyd Mayweather was questioned at Thursday’s media day in Las Vegas if he felt he had to put Conor McGregor away on Aug. 26 for himself to consider it a win. The 40-year-old boxing legend will pit his 49-0 unbeaten record against the UFC champion in what will be the biggest combat sports event in history.

Considering McGregor doesn’t even have one pro boxing fight on his record, Mayweather insisted he needs to put the Irishman away for it to feel like a win to him.

“It is a victory for him,” Mayweather admitted. “If he goes the distance, it’s a victory for him. In my eyes also.”

Is there any chance McGregor can go the distance with the pound-for-pound king? On paper it seems unlikely, but anything can happen in the fight game, especially if Floyd gets to thinking he needs to carry Conor in order to make it feel like the fans are getting their money’s worth.
