Golden Boy boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya recently penned a scathing open letter criticizing the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor matchup saying it’s a “lose-lose” situation for the fans and it could irreparably hurt the sport of boxing. “Only we can shut the circus down by making it clear that we won’t pay to see a joke of a fight and telling our casual-fan friends that they shouldn’t either,” De La Hoya wrote. “It’s a win-win for them. It’s a lose-lose for us. We’ll be $100 lighter and we will have squandered another opportunity to bring boxing back to its rightful place as the sport of kings. … Just wait until the best boxer of a generation dismantles someone who has never boxed competitively at any level – amateur or professional. Our sport might not ever recover.”

UFC President Dana White on Wednesday released a video on Twitter that shows a dated video of Oscar saying, “Imagine Conor McGregor and Golden Boy coming together…” The video clearly shows the Golden Boy promoter interested in working with McGregor, but he’s taking a different stance on the UFC champion coming into the boxing arena now that a match against Mayweather is in the works and Golden Boy has Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin scheduled for September.

So why is “The Golden Boy” throwing shade at Mayweather vs. McGregor? TMZ followed up with White following his social media post, and the UFC President expressed his bewilderment with De La Hoya’s criticism of the match.

“What’s up [Oscar]? Why would you say something like that,” White questioned. “It makes it sound like he has no confidence whatsoever in Triple G vs. Canelo, which I have come out and said publicly is a good fight. … He seems completely insecure and it’s one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. And talk about two-faced and contradicting, and the list goes on-and-on, and hating, and like he has no confidence in his fight.”

“Oscar, what the f*ck? Seriously, what the f*ck is going on with you,” White questioned. “Are you nuts? Have you lost your mind? Have you lost your f*cking mind? What’s going on?”
