Get to know top Canadian featherweight Lenny “The Show Stealer” Wheeler before he takes on Tristan Connelly at Elite 1 MMA in May.

When you were a kid, what did you want to do for a living?”

I don’t know. I went through a lot of phases. Once, when I was 11 I watched a VHS of UFC and told everyone who’d listen that I was going to be a fighter. But I didn’t have a clue how.

Where would you be without MMA?

Probably not doing as good. It definitely keeps me grounded and focused on health and lifestyle changes. I think I would be drinking and doing that stuff that most other people do without MMA in my life.

Do you have any hobbies outside of fighting?

Not really outside of fighting. I just like to do a lot of fitness things. It all kind of relates back to fighting. I like to run and jog and bike and swim. Things that relate to fitness.

Favorite musical artist?

One person I always have at least one song from on a playlist is Tupac Shakur. At least one song per playlist. And Michael Jackson, of course!

Last good movie you saw?

Hands Of Stone. I saw it the other day without subtitles and I still watched the whole movie. I think it’s in Spanish or something. I couldn’t make out what they were saying but it was awesome.

Speaking of Hands of Stone, what’s your favorite way to finish a fight?

I like to get the knockout. It gets the energy going through the crowd – people like to see it, they like to experience it. But whatever way it comes, it’s good to get the win. It’s better than a loss.

Best post-victory meal?

It depends. When I’m fighting at 145, pretty much anything. At 155, it’s a little easier. But I like a little cheesecake or something after a fight.
