McGregor won the featherweight title, fought Nate Diaz, fought him again, and then he fought and defeated lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez for the title. The featherweights have already raged on Twitter about him not defending the title. Now, watch how angry they will get if he fights Nate Diaz for a third time.

McGregor’s head trainer John Kavanagh says he’d like to see him stay at Lightweight. To cap off the insanity he now claims they want Nate Diaz again which would hold up both the featherweight and lightweight division contenders from the shots they have earned. That just doesn’t seem fair to hold two belts hostage. On the other hand, Diaz is a lightweight and it would be a legit big money fight – unless you’re Khabib Nurmogamedov and lose your mind. McGregor doesn’t seem interested in a bout with him and he spoke to FOX Sports about it after his historic win.

It was a good performance. He was talking as well. Look he’s fought once in eight years. He ain’t fighting too frequent for my liking. For me to commit to something like that, I need solid proof that people are going to show up and he’s a consistent pull out merchant.

He had a good performance tonight. Fair play to him. We’ll see where it goes. I need to see active. I need to see activity consistency. I need to see me. If you want me to come and change your life, you want me to come pick you, you better have some damn reasons for me to do that. We’ll see how that goes.

Adding fuel to that fire was Kavanagh on the MMA Hour:

I understand Khabib is the No. 1 contender and it is probably going to be him, if that’s how the company works. But for me, interest-wise, the Nate Diaz fight interests me greater. If it’s Tony (Ferguson), if it’s Khabib, great, they are two fantastic fighters and a lot to learn in the preparations for them. Both of their fights will be interesting to watch, a lot of problems for me to solve and to see Conor beat both of them will be interesting for me. But, I think Nate would be quite a bit better than either of them.

As a fan, that’s the fight that would interest me most.

What do you think? At what weight should McGregor fight next and against who?
