Before undefeated Jamestown, Tenn., fighter Sawyer Rich returns to action versus Cromwell Stewart at Valor Fights 38 on November 5 in Nashville, LIVE on FloCombat, check out his interview with Pro MMA Now.
How did you find MMA to begin with?
I’ve always been a fan, but I started as a boxer. I actually started boxing when I was 10, then transitioned to kickboxing. Before I knew it, I was wrestling too, and then I transitioned into MMA.
When you began training as a mixed martial artist, what were your first impressions of the sport
Like I said, I was always a fan, and thankfully I have a natural gift for fighting. I’ve always been tough and I was a naturally strong kid growing up. MMA is something that you have to have a love for, and I definitely do. I always have.
Why have you been so successful so far?
I think it’s my drive and my work ethic. I’m training correctly and I’m with the right people. I’ve been doing combat sports since I was 10 years old, so I’ve learned how to properly prepare for fights, and it’s definitely paying off.
How are you feeling going into this fight?
I feel great. My weight cut is awesome. I don’t feel drained, and I feel like I’m going to make weight easily. I’m training hard, dieting hard, pushing cardio like a madman. I’m training to go take that win.
Where does a win put you in your career?
Well, it will put me to 2-0 as a pro. Hopefully I’ll be 2-0 after November 5. I’m not looking past anyone. But a win puts me right up there in contention with anyone my size in the Valor Fights system.
