Former University of Tennessee Martin cornerback Cromwell Stewart caught up with Pro MMA Now before he throws down with Sawyer Rich at Valor Fights 38 on November 5 in Nashville, Tenn., LIVE on FloCombat.

How did you find MMA to begin with?

I wrestled in high school, but after high school I focused on football. I played in college, overseas and played a little arena ball. When I came back, I needed something to do, and a friend of mine told me to go look up a local gym. I was going in just to stay in shape — to get back in wrestling shape — but I fell in love with it.

Do you prefer MMA over football?

I would say I do in certain aspects, and in certain aspects I don’t. I love the team aspect of football, but I also love the individuality of MMA. I like both. I like them both (laughs).

Would you like to establish a home for yourself at Valor Fights?

Oh yeah, man. Valor Fights treats me really well and I really like fighting for them. Whenever they call, I’m all for it. I’m a big Valor Fights fan, and I’m looking forward to growing with them a lot more.

What are your expectations for this fight?

My opponent is a tough kid. He’s a grinder. He’s a really scrappy kid. It should be a tough kid, but I’m going to come out on top.

How do you see this fight playing out?

I’m well-prepared on the ground and standing up. He’s a kickboxer. I’m prepared to win the fight, however it comes to me. I’m not going to force anything. I’m going to take anything he gives me and take it that way.
