It’s official. UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will face UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. Alvarez’s 155-pound title will be on the line. The event will be held on Nov. 12, 2016, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The bout was rumored for at least a month leading up to the announcement until Dana White took to media outlets and stated McGregor was injured from his victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 202. A few days ago the rumors started to pick up again and it is now official that this will be the headliner for the first MMA event in New York since the sport was sanctioned in the state earlier this year.

Current UFC interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo will have to wait again to face McGregor for the actual belt. No time frame has been set for a return bout between McGregor and Aldo, but the rumor is 2017. Conor decimated Aldo in 12 seconds in their first meeting to capture Aldo’s championship.
