Here’s the lineup for tonight’s UFC on FOX 21 main card from Vancouver. We’ll be doing a live blog, sharing my thoughts on each fight in real time.
- Welterweight: Demian Maia vs. Carlos Condit
- Featherweight: Anthony Pettis vs. Charles Oliveira
- Women’s Strawweight: Paige VanZant vs. Bec Rawlings
- Lightweight: Joe Lauzon vs. Jim Miller
Refresh every so often for live updates. First main card fight starts at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
JOE LAUZON VS. JIM MILLER
Round 1 – Miller landed some hard punch combinations, especially in the latter part of the round. Lauzon got a takedown and went for a heel hook at one point but couldn’t hold it. 10-9 Miller
Round 2 – Lauzon definitely got the better of Miller this round and was more effective on the feet showing skilled boxing. He caught a kick and put Miller down then beat him up from half guard. Miller landed some hard elbows to Lauzon’s neck/shoulder from the bottom. 10-9 Lauzon
Round 3 – Standup was pretty even this round, but Lauzon got another takedown and ended the round on top and going for an armbar. 10-9 Lauzon
Official Result: Jim Miller def. Joe Lauzon via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
Crowd doesn’t like the judges’ scores.
PAIGE VANZANT VS. BEC RAWLINGS
Round 1 – Paige stayed on the outside mostly choosing not to brawl with the Aussie. Not a lot of action.
Round 2 – Paige lands a jumping switch kick that lands flush on Bec’s jaw and she goes down. Paige finishes her off with hammerfists for the stoppage.
Official Result: Paige VanZant def. Bec Rawlings via knockout (head kick) – Round 2, 0:12
ANTHONY PETTIS VS. CHARLES OLIVEIRA
Round 1 – Wow. Round of the year in my book. Oliveira took Pettis’ back early looking for the choke and he looked all but done. But Pettis turned it around and busted Oliveira up, hurting him on the feet then landing hard punches on the ground. Amazing. 10-9 Pettis.
Round 2 – Both guys landed some big hard shots. Most memorable was a spinning back kick from Pettis. But Oliveira probably took the round due to his grappling and finished on top with a takedown.
Round 3 – Wow! Another amazing finish for the night. Oliveira started strong and it looked as though his BJJ would put him over but Pettis hit a reversal and ends up choking Oliveira with a guillotine and forced the tap. Beautiful finish to a very gritty fight. Both guys showed a lot of heart and spirit.
Official Result: Anthony Pettis def. Charles Oliveira via submission (guillotine choke) – Round 3, 1:49
DEMIAN MAIA VS. CARLOS CONDIT
Round 1 – Maia makes it look easy. Takes Condit down and submits him with a rear-naked choke early in the round. Damn. You never like to see a main event go that fast, but the rest of the fights were so good, we can’t be greedy. The MMA gods delivered once again. Salute to these warriors of the spirit.
Official Result: Demian Maia def. Carlos Condit via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 1, 1:52
