Our buddy “Steve” inside WWE nailed it, and once again proves we have the scoops you want. Roman Reigns has been the backstage focus so much so that Ambrose, Rollins, and Styles have all been booked around WWE’s latest scheme to shove Reigns further down our throats.
Here’s what Steve said in a nutshell.
Reigns is suspended, but Vince is hell bent on making him their go to guy. They see him as photogenic, marketable, and their dream combo – friendly to kids and moms. He is essentially supposed to supplant Cena as their Make-a-Wish PR machine. John is reportedly friendly to the idea, but struggling with the reality he may not be the golden boy in the near future. His concerns are money oriented and rightfully so. If Reigns takes over, Cena’s role will be lessened as will his bonuses.
All of the booking surrounding the Shield members is designed for the “Redemption of Roman Reigns”. They see his failed wellness test as a solid booking angle that will gain building sympathy until it boils over, and in Vince’s mind, Reigns gets the belt back with a hero’s welcome, either at SummerSlam or Wrestlemania. They are apparently still blocking out fan rejection, and scrambling to figure out a way to make us like him. Rumors persist that Vince has said he will make Roman a mega star even if it means the company suffers.
Reportedly, they still do not care one bit about the failing ratings or poor house show attendance with Reigns as champion. Vince and his team are dead set, no matter what on making Reigns their champion and walking merchandise machine. There are no plans for anyone else besides Reigns to be champion in the long term.
Ambrose’s suspect weak booking has been to lessen his popularity until Roman’s return. Rollins, on the other hand has been booked to look like Superman so Reigns will have a solid bad guy to beat when they feel the heat from his failed wellness check has worn off and Vince can pull the trigger.
Talents in the back are frustrated that he is being rewarded, his failure seen as a positive, and refusal by creative to utilize them in his absence. The “brass rings” comment by Vince are seen as a joke, especially now that this is happening.
Steve has been right so many times that it is hard to doubt him anymore. Remember these are RUMORS and should not be taken as fact until they come to pass.
