matt mitrione-ufc165A new bout between heavyweight contenders Matt Mitrione (10-5) and Oli Thompson (17-8) is in the works for the Bellator 158 fight card. The event will take place at the O2 Arena in London, England, on July 16.

The matchup was announced following Mitrione’s first-round knockout victory over Carl Seumanutafa at Bellator 157 on Friday night. However, Bellator officials are unable to confirm the bout until “Meathead” has received medical clearance to compete in July.

Bellator 158 will feature a headline bout between Paul “Semtex” Daley and Douglas Lima, and elsewhere on the main card Michael Page will take on Evangelista Santos in a welterweight showdown. The event is expected to air on Spike TV.

As mentioned earlier, Mitrione picked up a win over Carl Seumanutafa on Friday night. Prior to that, he suffered losses to Travis Browne and Ben Rothwell while competing in the UFC. Before the Rothwell fight, Matt scored three knockout wins in a row against Shawn Jordan, Derrick Lewis and Gabriel Gonzaga.

Oli Thompson is currently riding a five-fight winning streak. His most recent victory came at Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye in December where he defeated Fernando Rodrigues Jr. via TKO in round one. Prior to that, Thompson picked up wins over Ikuhisa Minowa, Kamil Bazelak, Chris Barnett and Michal Wlodarek all during 2015.
