Lyndon Whitlock hands up in fight (3)

Lyndon Whitlock (10-5), one of Canada’s top bantamweight fighters, recently spoke with ProMMANow.com before his Global Warriors FC fight on the weekend in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, where he’s hoping to earn his 12th win.

If someone told you when you were growing up that you’d someday be fighting for a living, would you believe them?

I think I would’ve said no, but some other people might have agreed (laughs). I was a big WWF fan and a little bit in-your-face. When I played hockey, I was always pretty scrappy and getting into trouble (laughs).

Why MMA?

I played almost every sport that you could imagine. MMA is a team sport — you have coaches and training partners, of course — but you can’t depend on anyone but yourself when you’re out there. With the adrenaline flowing and the stakes so high — you can’t replicate that feeling.

Is there anything you’d rather be doing for a living?

I’m very happy with what I’m doing. I’m happy owning a gym and I’m happy fighting — especially when I’m on a winning streak (laughs).

How’s your fight on the weekend going to go?

I hope a knockout. But I don’t really make predictions. I’ve done that before, and there are too many variables in a fight. I’m just going to go out there and have fun and do what I have to do to win.
