In honor of “The Spider’s” return to the Octagon this weekend in London where he will meet Manchester’s Michael “The Count” Bisping in the UFC Fight Night 84 main event, let’s take a look back at the last time Anderson Silva fought in England’s capital city.
For that we’ll need to travel back a decade to April 22, 2006 when he faced Tony Fryklund at Cage Rage 16. Anderson was defending his Cage Rage middleweight title for a third time and was coming off a DQ loss for an illegal up-kick to Yushin Okami at Rumble on the Rock 8 three months earlier.
I won’t spoil the ending if you haven’t seen it, but suffice it to say Anderson signed with the UFC shortly after that, knocked out Chris Leben in 49-seconds and the rest is history.
We’ll see you on Saturday for the UFC’s return to London!
