UFC 192 takes place this evening from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, and features a light heavyweight championship bout as Daniel Cormier puts his title on the line against Alexander Gustafsson, the man who gave former champ Jon Jones the fight of his life. In the co-headliner, Ryan Bader looks to move into title contention with a win over Rashad Evans, who is returning after a long layoff.

UFC 192 ROUND-BY-ROUND UPDATES:

Derrick Lewis vs. Viktor Pesta

Round 1 – Lewis is one scary looking dude. He’s also about 30 pounds heavier than Pesta. Takedown from Lewis but Pesta right back up in the clinch, pressing Lewis to the cage. Pesta with the foot stomps, and gets a trip takedown, landing in side mount. He lays on some ground and pound before Lewis gets up, but then puts him right back down. Lewis looking for a kimura off his back. Pesta avoids it and Lewis gets to his feet. Pesta hangs on him though and presses him back to the cage trying to tire the big man out. Another trip takedown from Pesta, and he’s back in side control. Lewis gives up his back to get to his feet and it works again. Pesta never lets go of him though, pressing him back to the cage. Lewis goes for a takedown of his own before the bell but Pesta defends. 10-9 Pesta.

Round 2 – Pesta puts Lewis back down. After a stalemate the ref stands them up. Pesta puts him right back down with 2 minutes left in the round. We’re seeing a big hole in the game of Derrick Lewis here. He gets back to his feet but Pesta is all over him, continuing to press him to the cage and look for the takedown. Lewis gets some distance and gets Pesta down, landing big punches and hammerfists with only 10 seconds to go and Pesta is saved by the bell. 10-9 Lewis.

Round 3 – Lewis misses a kick. He attacks with punches that miss, Pesta shoots in, Lewis pushes him over on his back and unloads punches, stacking Pesta, then moving into full mount where he unloads punches until the ref stops it.

Chris Cariaso vs. Sergio Pettis

Round 1 – Pettis with an early takedown. Controlling from inside full guard. Cariaso gets back to his feet. They separate and trade strikes. Cariaso lands a couple good kicks. Another tough body kick. They trade punches and Pettis scores with a right that drops Cariaso. Pettis tries to finish, ending up inside Cariaso’s full guard. Pettis tries to nail Cariaso with punches while standing over him as the bell sounds. 10-9 Pettis.

Round 2 – Cariaso connects with a right jab. Inside leg kick. Pettis with a takedown, moves to half guard. Now in full guard. Back to half. Ref wants action. He stands them up. Pettis switching stances a lot. Leg kick from Cariaso. Another. Head kick from Cariaso, leg kick from Pettis. Takedown from Pettis to counter a lead right hook. He gets full mount briefly but Cariaso attacks the leg, Pettis pulls out as he stands up. Cariaso kicking at his kneecaps off his back. Pettis dives into full guard with punches as the round ends. 10-9 Pettis.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Cariaso, Pettis catches it and dumps him on his back. Pettis meets him on the ground and looks for a guillotine, there’s a scramble and Cariaso ends up on top inside full guard. Nice up-kick from Pettis connects on the chin. Pettis looking for a kimura briefly. Cariaso able to keep Pettis on his back for some time. Ninety seconds left. Cariaso not really doing anything though other than controlling position. Cariaso attacks the leg with 30 seconds to go. Cranking on a heel hook as the round ends. Pettis survives it seems barely. 10-9 for Cariaso, though some may say 10-8.

Francisco Trevino vs. Sage Northcutt

Round 1 – Switching stances from Northcutt. Side kick to the body from Northcutt. Then to the knee. Trevino slips on a kick and Northcutt attacks him like a pit bull, he gets up and then Northcutt picks him up for a big slam and finishes Trevino in devastating fashion with punches and elbows. Trevino thought it was an early stoppage, but I personally thought it was late.

Rose Namajunas vs. Angela Hill

Round 1 – Pat Barry in Rose’s corner, along with Trevor Wittman. Rose showing a left jab, they exchange punches and Rose pushes her to the cage, but Angela turns her around. Back to the boxing. Angela connects with a jab. Rose pays her right back. Hard leg kick from Hill. Takedown from Rose. Rose inside Angela’s guard, Hill gives up her back and stands up with Rose locking on the choke. She goes out tapping at the air.

Adriano Martins vs. Islam Makhachev

Round 1 – Overhand left from Makhachev, then a body kick and another left over the top. Another. He shoots, misses. Leg kick from Martins. He swings big but misses. He slips but Makhachev can’t capitalize, and then out of nowhere Martins lands a huge counter overhand right and Makhachev goes down like a sack of potatoes. Ref jumps in to stop it.

Alan Jouban vs. Albert Tumenov

Round 1 – Jouban clinches up with a knee but gets thrown to the ground, he stands up to eat a punch. Tumenov catches a kick and dumps him. Tumenov calls him on, he lands a combo. Straight right and a body kick from Tumenov. Jab from Jouban. Head kick from Jouban, but it’s caught and he dumps Jouban. Back up and Jouban lands a low blow that gets a timeout. … Back at it. Counter right from Jouban. Head kick from Tumenov hurts Jouban, he’s shaky… Tumenov follows it up with a couple right uppercuts and a left and Jouban falls face first to the canvas and it’s over.

Yair Rodriguez vs. Dan Hooker

Round 1 – Inside leg kick from Rodriguez. He aims for the knee next with a side kick. Hooker circling on the outside, lots of feeling out. Hooker slips during an exchange and gets tagged a couple times. Back up and he partially blocks a high kick. Hard leg kick from Rodriguez. Hooker presses him to the cage. Rodriguez with a judo throw takedown and gets right in mount. Hooker gets a reversal and it’s back to the feet where they wrestle in the clinch and exchange punches before they break. Rodriguez with a roll kick attempt at the bell. 10-9 Rodriguez.

Round 2 – Front side kick to the body from Rodriguez. Spinning elbow attempt. Nice straight left from Hooker. There’s a brief scramble on the ground and then back to striking. Rodriguez the much more dynamic striker and lands a flipping kick on the back of Hooker’s head. Yair follows up with a stiff right. Hooker still pressing forward though. Left counter from Hooker. Body kick from Yair. Head kick from Yair, he catches a kick and dumps Hooker. But he’s right back up and continues to press with under a minute to go. He backs Yair to the cage. Spinning back kick to the body from Yair. Straight left from Hooker. Right counter. Takedown from Yair just as he’s starting to slow. 10-9 Yair.

Round 3 – Yair misses on a wheel kick. Brief clinch and Yair takes a low blow that forces a timeout. … Body shot from Hooker. One two from Rodriguez. Hooker with a body lock takedown but Yair attacks the leg, now the arm. Hooker is free but Yair cuts him up with elbows from off his back. Their legs are locked up such that neither can really move but Hooker is taking a lot of shots from the top. Hooker is busted up pretty badly now with just over a minute to go. Hooker is doing no damage at all. Ref finally stands them up with 35 seconds to go and calls the doctor in to check Hooker’s lacerations. Lead right hook from Yair. Hooker pursuing. Yair misses a flip kick at the bell. 10-9 Yair Rodriguez.

It appears Hooker broke his foot in the first round. It’s quite swollen after the fight.

Jessica Eye vs. Julianna Pena

Round 1 – Eye connects first and buckles Pena’s leg with a kick. Clinch, Pena pulls guard. But Eye is able to get up, and holds Pena with a guillotine for a moment before pressing her to the cage. Pena turns her around and gets a trip takedown. Pena on top in half guard dropping a few punches, but Eye muscles her way back up and its back to the clinch against the cage. Knees to the body from Pena. Eye turns her around, short elbow. Pena with a takedown into side control. She drops a series of elbows and takes Eye’s back before the bell. 10-9 Pena.

Round 2 – Pena comes out aggressive with punches. Eye clinches up and turns her to the cage. Eye with a takedown and lands in half guard. Eye takes Pena’s back, Pena defends but ends up caught in an arm triangle. Pena squirms but survives. Eye tries to readjust and finally gives it up. They punch each other in the kidney area while tangled up on the ground. They scramble and Eye has Pena in a scissors choke for a moment, but Pena escapes and has side mount. Eye lands an illegal knee to the head. Ref takes a point and stands them up. Eye lands a couple big punches during an exchange before the bell. 10-8 Pena.

Round 3 – Pena comes out super aggressive with punches and then a takedown, landing inside full guard. Eye goes for an inverted triangle but can’t lock it up. Eye gives up her back to try and get up. Pena locks up the rear naked choke but somehow Eye is able to roll out, but is still caught on the bottom. Pena with punches from inside guard. Pena looking for a one-arm guillotine. It’s tight but Eye survives. 10-9 Pena.

Pena calls out Rousey after the fight. And I like that fight a lot. … Pretty fun card so far. Personally I was super bummed when they lost the co-main event, but whaddaya gonna do. The recent changes with I.V. usage no longer being allowed by fighters to rehydrate is going to take time to adjust to. Hendricks will likely need to move up to middleweight or make a drastic change in diet.

Joseph Benavidez vs. Ali Bagautinov

Round 1 – Ali with a counter right as Joe rushes in. Overhand right from Joe Jitsu. Leap in jab from Benavidez. Leg kick from Bagautinov. Joe misses with a couple kicks. He shoots but is pushed aside. Joe has a cut over his left eye that’s bleeding pretty good. There were some big punch exchanges in this round but nothing landing too clean by either guy. 10-9 Bagautinov.

Round 2 – Nice body kick from Benavidez. Body kick and a right hand. Ali with a takedown but Joe is instantly back up. Takedown from Ali off a kick. Joe back up but gets taken down again, and he’s back up before the bell. Not a very exciting round and there’s a few boos. 10-9 Bagautinov.

Round 3 – Body kick from Joe, but he gets pushed down. Back up and they exchange punches. High kick from Bagautinov. Leg kick from Benavidez. Boos from the crowd at the point fighting. Nice left from Bagautinov. Half the round down. More boos. Ali swings for the fences and whiffs. Ali with a takedown, Joe rolls to his feet. Joe with a right and a knee on the break. 10-9 Benavidez.

Lots of boos at the decision. Obviously, I didn’t see it the same as the judges. I admit I was day dreaming about that new Tony Hawk game through part of the fight.

Shawn Jordan vs. Ruslan Magomedov

Round 1 – I’m thinking Jordan by knockout, round one. Let’s see… Big boys here. Jordan came in at 265-pounds, the heavyweight limit. Jordan pursuing. Misses with some punches. Blocks a high kick. Leg kick from Ruslan. Jordan clinches up and pushes Ruslan to the cage. They wrestle in the clinch and then Shawn gets a takedown. Ruslan fighting to get up but Jordan doing a good job of preventing that from happening. Ruslan is back up but Shawn is still on him looking for a single. Standing kimura attempt from Ruslan allows him to break it up and get some distance. Jordan looking for that bomb. Leg kick. High kick from Ruslan, and he tags Jordan with a couple solid punches. Body kick from Ruslan. Jordan whiffs and Ruslan counters with a couple punches. Fairly close round.

Round 2 – Jordan told his corner he believes his ribs are broken. He comes out aggressive with punches in the pocket but Ruslan stops the assault with some counter punches. Jordan fires back with more big shots before they tie up against the cage. Ruslan backs out. Jordan shoots in but Magomedov defends the takedown and turns Jordan to the cage. Ruslan with a high kick and his toe catches Jordan in the eye. He takes a moment to check it unofficially. Ruslan obliges. Jordan pursuing. Jab from Magomedov. Low kick, left lead hook from Magomedov. Jordan presses Magomedov to the cage, but is quickly turned around. Ruslan grazes Jordan with a head kick. Crowd boos. 10-9 Magomedov.

Round 3 – Lead leg question mark kick from Ruslan but Jordan responds with big punches and a takedown attempt. Magomedov defends and turns Jordan to the cage. Nice elbows from Magomedov and a spinning back kick. Jordan is cut around both his eyes now. Ruslan touches him up with punch combinations, then high kicks. Another lead question mark kick from Ruslan, and a body kick. Front kick. Jordan pursuing again but not cutting him off. Clinch, Jordan drops levels looking for the takedown but it’s stifled. Uppercut from Jordan in the clinch. Ruslan backs out with a head kick that slaps Jordan’s cheek. Jordan clinches up and lands an elbow on the break. Front kick to the face from Magomedov. Jabs and punches keep Jordan at bay as the round ends. 10-9 Magomedov.

Well my last minute prediction on that fight was wrong. I hope that’s no indication for this next fight because I just bet @KelvinHuntMMA $5 that Bader was going to win this one. I think the long layoff is going to hurt Evans, and I don’t think he has the same hunger for that top spot like he once did. I think Bader does and I think he’s pissed Gustafsson got the title shot off a loss, while he’s been winning.

Ryan Bader vs. Rashad Evans

Round 1 – Rashad is a great counter striker. Leg kick from Bader. Overhand right from Bader, body kick. Body shot from Rashad. Jab from Bader. He circles on the outside, body kick. He shoots, stuffed. Right to the body, one to the head from Rashad. Overhand right from Evans. Bader keeping his head pretty high. Nice jabs from Bader, and using nice footwork. Jab from Rashad, trying to get his distance. Jab from Bader. Rashad with a right. He slips but is right back up. More jabs from Bader. Straight right. Rashad with a punch combo and the clinch. Bader turns him around and lands an elbow on the break. Rashad backs him to the cage looking for that big shot but doesn’t find it. Fairly close. Leaning toward Bader 10-9.

Round 2 – Touch of gloves. Rashad pressing. Right hand and a left from Bader. Nice side kick to the body from Bader smacks solid. Nice body kick. Jabs. Rashad whiffs an overhand right. Bader shoots and puts Rashad on his butt. That’s big. Rashad gives up his back to get up. Bader picks him up for another takedown. Rashad is back up but Ryan still has a hold of him, finally he backs out after Rashad defends. Body kick from Bader. … Leg kick from Rashad as he backs Bader to the cage but can’t cut him off. Bader circles. Nice jab set up for a big overhand right from Rashad. Rashad shoots in, stuffed. Clinch. Bell. 10-9 Bader.

Round 3 – Rashad pursuing. Jabs from Bader keeping him at bay. Leg kick from Rashad. Lead left hook from Bader connects. Rashad’s right eye is swollen. Rashad scores with a jab. Clinched up, Rashad presses Bader to the cage. Bader scores with an elbow on the break. Body kick from Bader. Two minutes to go. Rashad backs Bader to the cage and lands a right, he shoots in but can’t get the takedown. Bader with an elbow on the break. Overhand right, left jab from Bader. High kick from Rashad scores. Thirty seconds to go and Rashad is pursuing, this sets up a takedown from Bader but Rashad is right back up. Rashad scores with a couple punches before the bell. 10-9 Bader.

Daniel Cormier vs. Alexander Gustafsson

Round 1 – Leg kick from Cormier as he stalks, another leg kick. Another, inside. Alex showing a jab. Cormier shoots for the single and picks Alex up HIGH for a big slam turning him completely upside down. Cormier in half guard on top. Now in full guard. Short elbow and body shots from Cormier. Cormier postures up and Alex tries to explode to his feet but is shut down. Back to full guard. Body shot from Cormier. Short elbow, he covers his mouth to disrupt the breathing. More punches from Cormier as Alex throws up his legs for an apparent triangle attempt, but Cormier easily slides out. 90 seconds to go. Cormier in side mount. Alex gets up. Alex looking toward his corner. Cormier with an inside leg kick. Leg kick from Alex, body kick. Leg kick and right hook from Cormier. Alex shoots, stuffed. Cormier slips on a kick attempt but is up at the bell. 10-9 Cormier.

Round 2 – Alex getting off with a few punches. Cormier stalking. Body shot from Alex. Cormier literally chasing Alex. Knee from Alex as Cormier shoots in. Stuffed and Alex takes the Olympic medalist down. He’s back up and Alex hurts him with a punch. Cormier clinches up. Knee from Alex. Cormier presses him to the cage. Alex cuts Cormier up with an elbow. Front kick from Alex. Cormier’s right eye is cut up. Right from Cormier. Uppercut and straight from Alex. Cormier with uppercuts in the clinch. Nice body head combo from Cormier. Leg kick from Cormier. DC doesn’t need to play this distance game. One two front kick from Cormier. Big overhand right. Uppercut from Alex. Under a minute to go. Cormier constantly pursuing, lands some big shots inside. Alex retreats, lands a jab, and gets another body lock takedown on Cormier. He gets up but Alex hangs on him until the bell. 10-9 Gustafsson.

Round 3 – Cormier pursuing with jabs and a leg kick. Step in knee from Alex. Cormier not cutting him off, lands a leg kick. Nice uppercut from Alex scores. Leg kick. Nice couple right hands from Cormier, he whiffs on another one that stumbles Alex. Gustafsson’s nose is streaming now. Uppercuts inside the clinch from Cormier, more. Alex retreats. One-two from Gustafsson. He looks for a shot and Cormier sprawls to avoid it. Back to the boxing. Center of the cage. Quick lead left hook to the body from Gustafsson. Nice jab. Leg kick exchange and big shots from Cormier inside, looking for the Tyson KO Mighty Blow. Gustafsson firing back though, hanging in there. Grueling dirty fight here but Gustafsson hurts Cormier with a knee and drops him with a follow up punch. Cormier goes for a leg as he gets up. Gustafsson pushes him to the cage and Cormier is a bloody mess. Cormier pursuing at the 10 second mark but nothing else is thrown. 10-9 Gustafsson.

Round 4 – Gustafsson goes back to landing punches, he shoots, stuffed. Alex working the jab, nice body kick follows. Cormier right in front of him, eats a right counter. Cormier chases him with left hooks and scores from behind. More jabs from Alex. Right hook. Alex’s face and nose all bloody again. Lead jab and hook from the Swede. One two from Alex. Cormier chasing but not cutting him off. Alex able to keep him off with jabs at this point. Body kick from Alex. he shoots, stuffed. Right hooks from Cormier as he chases. Cormier not trying any takedowns this round. Dirty boxing from Cormier as he continues to chase. Trip from Alex but Cormier is right up. Right hand from Cormier at the end. 10-9 Cormier.

Round 5 – It’s funny how many finishes were on the undercard and now we’re about to go all decisions on the PPV. Go figure. The corner talk between rounds was interesting, basically both corners yelling at their fighters, “How much do you want this?” Cormier’s corner wants a takedown. Lead jabs and hooks from Gustafsson. They trade leg kicks. Big right from Alex. Nice left right from Cormier as Alex retreats. Leg kick from Cormier, another. Right from Alex. Constant pressure from Cormier, trying to break him. Alex shoots in but can’t get this one. Gustafsson having to do quite a bit of running, like with his back to Cormier. Clinched up in the center of the cage. Alex gets some distance with the jab until Cormier clinches up. They’re both exhausted. Cormier with dirty boxing inside with a minute to go. Knee from Alex. Lead hook from Alex. Grueling battle here in the final seconds. Knee from Alex. Dirty boxing from Cormier. They both raise their hands. 10-9 Cormier. Cormier should take it 3 rounds to 2 but… you never know.
