Ronda Rousey
UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey made the announcement on ABC’s Good Morning America today. Rousey will look to defend his title against Holly Holm on January 2.

This is a surprise considering that UFC President Dana White had confirmed that former title challenger and Rousey’s arch rival Miesha Tate was next in line for a title shot after beating Jessica Eye a few weeks ago.

Rousey (12-0) is coming off a 34 second destruction of Bethe Correira in his last outing at UFC 190. She has defeated her last four opponents with the longest of those fights lasting on one minute and six seconds.

Holm (9-0) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Marion Reneau in his lasting outing in July. Holm is (2-0) in the UFC and has won six of her nine career fights via TKO/KO. Holm is a former professional boxer who was a three division world champion and made the transition to MMA in 2013.
