Nintendo president Satoru Iwata dies at 55.

The president of one of the most beloved gaming system creators has passed away after years of declining health. Iwata was at helm when the DS line was released as well as the insanely popular Wii console.

He career began as a bright developer embedded in a Nintendo subsidiary called HAL Laboratories. Some of his most notable works during that time were contributions to Balloon Fight and Earthbound. He became the president of HAL in 1993 and seven years later he was the head of corporate planning at Nintendo for two years. Then, in 2002, Iwata took over for president Hiroshi Yamauchi and became only the fourth president in Nintendo’s history.

PMN would like to send our condolences to Iwata’s family and the Nintendo company, and fans.
