The MMA world was shocked to learn on Monday that top ranked UFC lightweight Gilbert Melendez had failed a drug test and had been suspended for one year. Melendez tested positive for “exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites” which means he allegedly had testosterone in his body that did not originate there.
Melendez failed his post-fight urinalysis after dropping a close split decision to Eddie Alvarez at UFC 188 last month in Mexico City. It’s always interesting to hear from a fighter after their opponent gets popped for PEDs. Alvarez weighed in on Twitter:
I never judge anyone fro doing anything . not taking PED's has been a personal Descision for Me . Everyone does shit differently .

I been blessed, I never felt the need to take anything , but we are in a tough sport highly competitive , I understand why guys do stuff

Well, Alvarez took the high road here saying he “understood why guys do stuff”. Wonder if he’d feel the same way if he’d lost that split decision to “El Nino” at UFC 188?
