UFC-Tonight-logoOn tonight’s UFC TONIGHT, host Kenny Florian and guest host Michael Bisping talk to Dana White and Daniel Cormier about Jon Jones getting stripped of his title and the new title fight. Karyn Bryant and Ariel Helwani add reports.

UFC TONIGHT Host Kenny Florian on the UFC’s decision to strip Jon Jones of his title: “The UFC made the right call. He didn’t give them much of a choice. This is a lesson for all the fighters.”

UFC TONIGHT Guest Host Michael Bisping on the consequences of the UFC’s decision for Jon Jones: “You have to send a message to all the fighters. He’s a young man. I’m sure he’s very sorry and is doing a lot of learning from it.”

UFC President Dana White on Jon Jones’ reaction to getting stripped of the title: “He wasn’t happy. He was upset.”

White on stripping the champion: “This is the first time we’ve ever done it. Guys have been cut for different reasons.”

White on Daniel Cormier getting a chance to fight Anthony Johnson for the title: “Anthony Johnson just beat Alexander Gustafsson and Daniel Cormier went five rounds with Jones. So it’s number one vs. number two, in my opinion.”

White on what Jones should do next: “He should focus on his pending legal matters.”

Daniel Cormier on when he found out he is getting title shot: “I followed social media and finally Dana and Lorenzo called me and told me right before it went public. I’ve been trying to contain myself. I was training for Bader and I’m just shifting my focus now to face Rumble.”

Cormier on his initial reaction to Jones’ situation: “It’s not good. You don’t kick a guy when he’s down. It was disappointing. All the stuff Jon gets in to is disappointing. He has the world at his fingertips and he can’t get out of his own way.”

Cormier’s advice to Jones: “Just get it together. A lot of people look up to you and a lot people who want to see him succeed. I’ll be waiting on the other side with my championship and he can challenge me for it.”

Cormier on fighting Johnson: “Johnson is a tremendous fighter. At the end of the day, Anthony Rumble Johnson is who he is. At the core, he’s the guy who was submitted by Josh Koscheck and tapped out when Vitor Belfort got a choke in. I have to go out and find that.”

Cormier on if he’s fighting for the real title: “Jon was the champion, but he beat himself. But opportunity presents itself and you have to step up. It’s my job to get in there and fight and beat Anthony Johnson. Jon did this to himself. The belt is not his anymore. This is for the real championship.”

Ariel Helwani on heavyweight Josh Barnett’s return: “Josh Barnett has secured a big movie role, and doesn’t have time to train for a summer fight. He’s eying a return in the late third quarter or fourth quarter. He’d like to fight Roy Nelson.”

Helwani on Ovince Saint Preux’s next fight: “I talked to his management and they want to fight in Nashville on the upcoming FOX Sports 1 card. He’s from Tennessee and they want to fight Rampage, who’s also from Tennessee. However, team Rampage doesn’t seem interested in the fight.”

Bisping on his next fight: “I’d love to fight on the Scotland card. I’d fight anyone in the top 10.”
