Bellator 134 takes place this evening from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. and features a light heavyweight championship bout with Emanuel Newton defending his title against Liam McGeary. Also, Paul Daley makes his return against Andre Santos at welterweight, and King Mo moves up to heavyweight to face Cheick Kongo.

Brennan Ward vs. Curtis Millender

Round 1 – Millender was originally scheduled to face Michael Page, who had to withdraw due to injury. Nice right hand from Millender, lands a left, and a left jab as Ward shoots in. Ward with a one two, and an inside leg kick. Ward catches him with a right and Millender goes down. Ward jumps on his back and is looking for the choke, flattens him out and Millender taps out. Ward calls out Michael Page after the fight.

Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou vs. Linton Vassell

Round 1 – Vassell has Soko’s back about a minute in, but gets back up and controls the bigger man against the cage, going for a trip but ending up on his back. Vassell on top in half guard, they scramble and Vassell takes the back with both hooks in and lands elbows before the bell. 10-9 Vassell.

Round 2 – Inside leg kick from Soko. Push kick from Vassell. Jab from Vassell as he tries to get inside. Body jab from Soko. Vassell shoots in for the double and gets Soko to his butt against the cage. Vassell gets his back once again and flattened out. Vassell punches until the ref stops it. Soko looked like he wanted out of that fight, he got wore out.

Paul Daley vs. Andre Santos

Round 1 – Inside leg kick from Santos. Body jab from Daley. Again. Overhand right and a couple short lefts from Santos. Brief clinch. Low inside kick from Daley. Santos presses with punches. Lands a left to the body. Daley clinches up against the cage. Santos turns him around. Daley lands a left hook and a knee. Big left hook to the body from Daley as Santos goes for bodylock takedown. Daley defends and turns him to the cage with 90 seconds left. Ref separates them. Lots of punches being thrown but no one landing, until Daley lands a big right and has Santos in trouble. Daley ends up taking him down, looking for the finish from half guard. 10-9 Daley.

Round 2 – Lots of swinging and missing before a brief clinch. On the break Daley lands a nice right and takes Santos down, looking for the g n’p. Santos looks to reverse and gets back to his feet. Santos with the double leg takedown. In side mount. Daley gets to his knees and feet. Santos wants to keep him down though and is fighting for it. Thai plum from Daley, lands a knee and a right. A left staggers Daley. He throws two more and shoots for the takedown. Daley does a good job defending but Santos won’t give up and finally gets on his back before the bell. 10-9 Santos.

Round 3 – Two left hooks from Daley and this puts Santos down. Daley goes for broke and is unloading his wad. The ref won’t stop it though. Daley on top in half guard calmed down now and pacing his punches. Santos gets to his feet. Daley with a big right, a left and Santos is cut between his eyes. Santos shoots, stuffed. Jab from Santos. Right hook and a knee to the face drops Santos, he’s a bloody mess and this should probably be stopped. Dan Mirgliotta looking on. Daley continues the assault as Santos tries to cover up. Santos somehow gets to his feet, his face a freaking mess. Clinch, knee from Santos. He shoots and gets Daley to his knees. Under a minute to go. Santos with the trip takedown and goes for his back, Daley gives up full mount. Eating punches. Daley gets to his feet at the 10 second mark but is taken back down before the bell. Great fight and close, depending on this last round. I still give Daley the round due to damage but Pride rules may score it for Santos as he was controlling the action at the end. 10-9 Daley and the fight 29-28 for Daley is how I see it.

Cheick Kongo vs. Muhammed Lawal

Round 1 – Mo looking big. Jab from Kongo. Kongo with a low stance. Mo dodges a right. Kongo is so big though. Mo misses a big overhand right and he stumbles forward. Mo catches a body kick. Big leg kick from Kongo. Mo ducks a right, scores a counter. Mo scores a takedown after faking a right. Kongo gets to his knees, Mo puts a couple knees to the thigh. Mo with a body lock from behind, drags Kongo down. Mo inside full guard but Kongo has him  tied up for the moment. Kongo with some short elbows off his back. 10-9 Mo.

Round 2 – Kongo shoots in after some posturing on the feet. Jab and a big leg kick from Kongo. Kongo slips on a low kick, but hops up in time to get pushed to the cage. Couple knees from Kongo as Mo looks for the takedown. Mo ends up on top in side mount. Mo in full guard. The crowd doesn’t like it but this is a smart strategy for Mo who is the much smaller man. Kongo gets to his feet and is looking for a single on Mo. Some knees to the legs of Mo. 10-9 Mo.

Round 3 – Inside leg kick from Mo. Overhand right from Kongo, big left hook. Mo shoots in, gets a trip takedown. Kongo back up but Mo pushes him to the cage. Kongo fights him off and lands a right on the break. Kongo looks for more hooks as Mo backs up, just missing. Mo hits a smart takedown. Ref wants work. Kongo’s back to the cage as Mo pulls him off and rides him as Kongo gets on his knees. Kongo fights to get back up but gets pulled back down. Under a minute to go and the crowd is not happy. Ref stands them up with 20 seconds left and Kongo is VERY slow to get up. Mo avoids Kongo until the bell. Kongo sits down against the cage, spent. The crowd boos Mo during his post-fight interview, he says, “Boo me! Connecticut is garbage.” Fully embracing the heel role and it works for him. I like it.

Emanuel Newton vs. Liam McGeary

Round 1 – Newton coming out aggressive. Newton misses on a spinning back kick. Inside leg kick scores. He catches a body kick from McGeary and puts him on his back. McGeary locks up a triangle and this fight is over. McGeary grabs the arm and cranks it, looking for an armbar. My god somehow Newton escaped. It looked over. Newton in side mount. McGeary looks for an inverted triangle, then throws his legs up for another triangle attempt. Newton escapes again. Inverted triangle from McGeary now. He cranks a kimura attempt and it’s deep. Somehow Newton escapes again and takes McGeary’s back briefly, McGeary rolls to his back. Newton in side mount. McGeary looking for the armbar. Newton dives in with a right, ends on top in half guard. Great freakin fight. 10-9 McGeary for the near finish.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Newton. body kick from Newton. Jab from McGeary. Newton catches a low kick and puts McGeary on his back. Both guys landing a few elbows. McGeary to his knees, Newton goes for his back, this sets up a scramble and ends with McGeary on his back and Newton working inside the guard. One minute to go. McGeary locks up a triangle/armbar and lands punches before the bell. Bell sounds. Newton’s eye is swollen pretty bad. 10-9 McGeary.

Round 3 – Low kick and lead right hook from Newton. Side kick from Newton. Jab from McGeary. Another jab and a right from McGeary. Newton walks into a lead left hand. Newton slips on a kick and McGeary tries to take advantage but ends up on the bottom. McGeary looks for an arm briefly. Newton takes side mount. McGeary sweeps and ends the round on top with Newton locked in a triangle where McGeary is landing punches. 10-9 McGeary. Probably Newton was saved by the bell there.

Round 4 – Inside leg kick from Newton. Again, misses a right. Jab from McGeary. Body kick from Newton, and a spinning back kick. After a couple slow minutes Newton gets a takedown and ends up inside open guard. Newton gets to half guard. Newton looks for an arm triangle as he steps over to side mount. Lets it go, back to full guard. McGeary throws up his legs looking for an arm. 10-9 Newton.

Round 5 – Body kick and knee from Newton, he gets a trip takedown. Inside full guard. McGeary goes for an armbar and Newton slams his way out of it, and is in side mount. Newton stands up, kicks the thighs of McGeary. Newton dives in with a right. McGeary has him in full guard with 2 minutes to go. McGeary goes for a triangle but Newton slides out at the 1 minute mark. Newton ends the round controlling from top. 10-9 Newton.
