ufn61Heavyweights Frank Mir and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva meet in tonight’s UFC Fight Night 61 main event. Top tier lightweights Edson Barboza and Michael Johnson will face off in the co-headliner. Tonight’s fight card will broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 from Ginásio Gigantinho in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

EDSON BARBOZA VS. MICHAEL JOHNSON

Round 1 – Body kick from Barboza. Left uppercut from Johnson, who is stalking. Nice body kick again from Barboza. Johnson in his face. Left hook from Barboza. Body kick again from Barboza, another. Misses the next. Uppercut left from Barboza as Johnson presses him to the cage briefly. Another body kick from Barboza and Johnson has slowed his pursuit but still coming forward, lands a left. Counter knee to the body from Barboza, then a head kick. Barboza shoots, stuffed, eats a one two from Johnson. Body kick and a couple shots from Johnson but he eats a big left hook in exchange. Then a spinning back kick knocks Johnson back. Left counter jab from Barboza. Inside leg kick from Johnson, then an exchange of punches. Leg kick Johnson. Left hook to the body. PMN scores it 10-9 Johnson

Round 2 – Big right body kick from Barboza. Johnson with a punch combo. Left hook follows. Body kick from Barboza. Nice hard left hook from Barboza, partially lands a high kick. Left hook from Johnson, body jab. Left hook upstairs. Still pressing forward. Inside leg kick from Johnson. Right counter hook from Barboza knocks Johnson off balance. Johnson coming back strong lands a big left hook within a combo that stuns Barboza, Johnson then takes him down much to the chagrin of the Brazilian crowd. Barboza makes his way back up, gets tagged with a big left, right combo. Barboza with a hard right hand that would’ve KO’d plenty people. Johnson gets him against the cage with a nice punch combo before the bell. PMN scores it 10-9 Johnson

Round 3 – Left hook and a straight right from Barboza connect. Super fast right body kick from Barboza once again finds its mark. Nice left hook from Johnson. Right hand countering a leg kick from Barboza. Johnson with another left. Barboza with another body kick. Inside leg kick from Johnson as he continues to move forward and press the pace. Counter uppercut from Barboza. Jonson stuns Barboza with a combo that backs him up. Another body kick from Barboza. Switch high kick from Barboza. Body kick from Barboza. With 30 seconds left Johnson scores a double leg takedown. A GSP-esque performance with more power from Johnson. 10-9 and 30-27 for Johnson is the way PMN got it.

ANTONIO SILVA VS. FRANK MIR

Round 1 – Mir lands first with a right at about the 4:30 mark. Mir drops Bigfoot with a left hook, follows up with several more punches and elbows until he goes out and referee Mario Yamasaki stops it. Very big and important win for Mir 14 years into his UFC tenure.
