Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliot ran wild over Oregon to the tune of over 200 yards and three TD’s. The Buckeye’s overcame four turnovers and dominated the time of possession, winning the game 42-20.

Heisman trophy winner Marcus Mariota was largely ineffective, although he did throw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns. However, Oregon was not able to capitalize off the turnovers their defense generated, and was also stopped on downs at the Ohio State goal line in the first half.

Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones was very efficient, throwing for nearly 250 yards, but more importantly kept numerous drives alive with his legs to get crucial first downs.

The Ohio State defense limited the vaunted Oregon uptempo attack to just under 20% on third down conversions, and the Ducks had a couple of crucial third down drops in the first half to really set the tempo for the game.

Ohio State led at the half 21-10 with Oregon closing the gap to 21-20 before Ohio State took over the game with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Oregon had one last chance to make it a game when Ohio State elected to punt on 4th and 6 with just over 4 minutes left in the game, but a holding penalty on Oregon got them off schedule and they couldn’t get anything going before turning the ball over on downs.

Urban Meyer wins his third national champion, his first at Ohio State, after winning two at the University of Florida in 2006 and 2008.
