The event is headlined with a featherweight match-up between top contenders Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson. Also on the card, No. 13 ranked Dustin Ortiz gets the biggest fight of his career as he takes on No. 2 ranked flyweight Joseph Benavidez.

UFC Fight Night 57 round-by-round updates:

155 lbs: Matt Wiman vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg

Round 1 – Wiman comes out throwing heat. Vallie-Flagg puts him against the cage. Lots of clinch fighting against the cage. Trading elbows. Wiman lands some nice knees to the body. Wiman stuffs a takedown attempt and takes Vallie-Flagg’s back. He switches to an armbar attempt but the bell ends the round. PMN scores it 10-9 for Wiman with that near finish.

Round 2 – More clinch fighting with Vallie-Flagg mostly controlling the fight, but Wiman is landing nice shots too. Rock-em-sock-em robot style. Vallie-Flagg shoots in and once again Wiman takes his back. This time Vallie-Flagg escapes to his feet and they go back to rockin em and sockin em for the remaining 30 seconds. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Vallie-Flagg.

Round 3 – Wiman puts Vallie-Flagg against the cage to start the round, and they’re back to the dirty boxing and clinch work. Ref separates them and they go back to clinch fighting in the center of the cage. Wiman’s corner wants a takedown. They trade punches before Vallie-Flagg puts Wiman against the cage. Wiman uses a guillotine to take him down then take his back again. Wiman looking for the choke, body triangle locked in. Under a minute to go. Round ends with Wiman still on him. Vallie-Flagg is frustrated and they exchange words. PMN scores the round 10-9 and the fight 29-28 for Wiman.

125 lbs: Joseph Benavidez vs. Dustin Ortiz

Round 1 – Huge opportunity for Ortiz. Will it be a little too soon for such a big step up? Leg kick from Benavidez. Dustin hunting with punches, pressing. More leg kicks and a body kick from Benavidez. Nice body kick from Benavidez, and another. Nice left hand. Front kick from Ortiz. Head kick and a nice left from Benavidez. Another head kick. Body shot from Benavidez. Nice right scores next. Nice body kick from Ortiz. Brief clinch as Benavidez scores some more. Nice leg kick. Benavidez perfectly times a takedown. Takes side mount before the bell. 10-9 Benavidez.

Round 2 – Benavidez pouring it on here. Lands a big head kick and is trying to end this fight. Ortiz still pressing forward. Big head kick and a right hand from Benavidez. He’s swinging big looking for the KO. A left from Ortiz clips Benavidez behind the head and he goes down briefly. Ortiz shoots now and gets his own takedown but Benavidez gets right up. Ortiz catches a kick and lands a punch that puts Benavidez down. Scramble and he’s back up and they’re back to head hunting, Ortiz wanting to prove he’s the real deal and Benavidez wanting to prove he’s out of his class. Front kick to the chin from Ortiz, then he stuffs the takedown. Right from Benavidez. Ortiz shoots, stuffed, he goes for Ortiz’s back as the round ends. 10-9 for Benavidez, although could go to Ortiz for the knockdown.

Round 3 – Nice uppercut from Benavidez. Body shot from Ortiz. Ortiz shoots, stuffed. Benavidez landing more significant strikes throughout the fight but the No. 13 ranked Ortiz is holding his own against he No. 2 veteran. And so far only one person has been knocked down in this fight. Ortiz with another takedown but Benavidez right back up. Nice right and a body kick from Benavidez. Body kick from Ortiz. Contender for Fight of the Night here. Ortiz is a tough sonofabitch and hopefully he learns from this loss. I remember when he fought Ian McCall at PFC and that was an enormous step up at that time in his career. He learned from that and is now in the UFC doing well. This should prod him on further.

265 lbs: Jared Rosholt vs. Oleksiy Oliynyk

Round 1 – Rosholt strikes first with a leg kick but eats an overhand right. They’re both throwing bombs now looking for the big one. Oliynyk gets clipped and hurt, but starts firing back. Rosholt holding a front headlock, presses Oliynyk to the cage, lands a couple knees. Rosholt teeing off with knees, punches and elbows. Oliynyk survives for now and clinches up. Couple right hands from Oliynyk, he then catches Rosholt on the chin with a left hook on the break and he goes down. Oliynyk finishes it up with two big hammerfists and he’s out.

145 lbs: Frankie Edgar vs. Cub Swanson

Cub had a strong start with his striking, but Edgar’s wrestling was the real story of this fight. He landed some good punches as well, but he scored takedown after takedown on Swanson and beat him up badly on the ground. Then Edgar pulls out a RNC submission with just four seconds left in the fight to cap it off, making it the latest finish in UFC history.
