UFC President Dana White has announced that UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman will defend his title against Vitor Belfort at UFC 184. The event will take place on February 28 in Los Angeles at the Staples Center. The co-main event will feature UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey defending her title against Cat Zingano.
Weidman (12-0) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Lyoto Machida at UFC 175, his second title defense since dethroning Anderson Silva at UFC 162.
Belfort (24-10) is coming into this bout off three consecutive wins in 2013 over the likes of Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold, and Dan Henderson. Belfort sat out all of 2014 due to a failed drug test for elevated testosterone in February.
Rousey (10-0) is coming off a first round 16 second win over Alexis Davis in his last outing at UFC 175. Rousey stunned Davis with a judo throw and landed numerous punches from the headlock position to finish Davis.
Zingano (9-0) is coming off a thrilling third round TKO win over Amanda Nunes in his last outing at UFC 178. This is the second title shot that Zingano has earned, the first after a win over Miesha Tate in 2013. However, that opportunity was lost win Zingano injured her knee and was forced to miss the rest of the year due to injury.
