Oct 11, 2014; Syracuse, NY, USA; Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston (5) calls a play at the line against the Syracuse Orange .

I do not personally know FSU quarterback Jameis Winston, but I have watched every single game of his while he has been the quarterback at Florida State. He has always struck me as the type of player to rise to the occasion, to play best when the lights are the brightest, and to thrive under pressure.

That’s exactly what he did on Saturday night and he should thank ESPN for it.

Just look at what he has done in the past on the field:

  • Crazy college debut against Pitt Panthers
  • Ridiculous game against Clemson in prime time where FSU hadn’t won in a decade
  • Huge comeback win against Boston College after being down by two TD’s
  • Huge comeback win in national championship game against Auburn
  • Huge comeback against NC State after being down 24-7 in the first quarter

You see where I’m going here? Yet, ESPN’s coverage of Jameis Winston this week has been nothing but fuel to his fire. There were ESPN analysts picking Notre Dame to beat FSU on Saturday night, using dumb reasoning like “this Notre Dame team feels like 2012 again”.

SEC lover Paul Finebaum said he would bet that Winston would get in trouble again and would not finish the season as the FSU quarterback “if he were a betting man”.

Yet none of the so called ‘experts’ talked about how the Notre Dame secondary had yet to face a QB like Winston. How all of the teams Notre Dame has played up to this point were average at best in the passing game.

They talked about the 1993 game where #2 Notre Dame beat #1 FSU 31-24. That game had absolutely nothing to do with the game that took place on Saturday night. How about talking about the last time these two teams played where FSU came back to beat Notre Dame 18-14 in the 2011 Champs Sports bowl? That would have been more relevant as both teams has players from those teams currently on the team, and the same head coaches.

All of those things fuel a team with a “us against the world” mentality. That’s what happened on Saturday night, and they shut up the haters once again with a 31-27 win over Notre Dame to keep their consecutive win streak going at 23 wins.

Jameis Winston should thank ESPN.

  1. Maybe he should also give a shout out ( Since congratulation’s are necessary ) to the Tallahassee police Department & the Florida State police chief, among many others… Don’t ya think ?

  2. No..not at all…ALL the evidence suggests that the girl wasn’t raped or assaulted…and that the sex was consensual….AND…she didn’t help her case by changing stories multiple times…lying, and holding up the investigation by not naming Winston until over a month after the two were together…among other things.

    Read the reports…they are available.

  3. Wow, what an idiot. Must be educated in state of Florida, only reasoning behind such a horribly written article and your stupid replies.

  4. pretty much exactly why two people follow you and you have single digit views….hhahah you fail loser!

  5. Florida State has destroyed their credibility. Sports is the primary factor and a university for education purposes, is secondary. One question clears up the matter. If Winston was a third string kicked, would he be on the team ?

  6. I hate Notre Shame… you’re program has as much dirt as any other… AND I KNOW I LIVE IN INDIANA!!!

  7. You must have missed this game. If anything, there are more questions than ever about FSU being in the playoffs if they lose a single game. There will be at least two in the playoffs with one loss… and it won’t be FSU. JW has a knack for a W but their performance didn’t silence anyone!

  8. NCAA football fans commenting about “character” is a joke. The criminal element in NCAA football is pervasive. Most of these players belong in prison. But their delusional fan base, which includes many police officers in their home communities, cover up their crimes and pretend they didn’t happen. What a bunch of pigs.

  9. What is a third string kicked? I don’t know any elite teams that waste three scholarships on kickers….also…you’re right though…if Winston wasn’t a star…well…we wouldn’t be talking about him right now.

  10. This is true..there should have been a penalty for P.J. Williams taking off his helmet…refs missed it…but still no guarantee ND scores with only like 1 or 2 plays left.

  11. Nope…refs got it right….thing is…people say don’t let the refs determine who wins the game…they didn’t…had ND been able to contain Winston in the second half like they did in the first…they would have won…but he owned them in the second half…and here we are…

  12. Wow you live in Indiana so you have more insight about Notre Dame than anyone else? Wow all from the end of the Trailer Park.

  13. You do realize that, without the necessary comma, all you’ve done is shout to the world that you know where you live. Oh, and, it’s “your” not “you’re”, you douche nozzle!

To the rest of you; I’d like to apologize for my Indiana brother. We accidentally left the electricity on in his trailer park again.

  14. Kelvin – I think that has a lot more to do with their remaining schedule than it does the quality of this years team. All unranked opponents with a combined 21-14 record and, maybe, Duke in the ACC Championship.

  15. It FSU had any credibility, they would have suspended Winston and threw him out of school for the robbery, if not the rape, pellet gun shootings, profanity in public and other behavior. It is clear FSU is more concerned about winning that educating students in good behavior.

  16. Thank you for the corrections. You are obviously correct on those grammatical matters. However, I don’t need you to apologize for me. I can do that all by myself. And, I do take exception with the “dooche nozzle” comment. By the way, “dooche” is spelled douche!!! It seems that you have to use some made up/ nonsensical pejorative to compensate for your insecurities. You see, I don’t live in or near a trailer park, you corn-fed hillbilly! Finally, I’m pretty sure there are numerous people who reside in those forms of manufactured housing that are of higher character than you.
You might want to do your homework on Notre Shame’s recent history of student-athlete violations and discretions! Maybe you should remove the pole from your eye before trying to take out the sty in mine…

  17. I didn’t claim to know more than anyone else, I guess you made an assumption… and we know what happens when you do that! ANDDDD for your personal edification:
Last week, the National Catholic Reporter published a lengthy piece on reported sexual assaults at Notre Dame. Its fulcrum is the case involving Lizzy Seeberg, a 19-year-old freshman at nearby St. Mary’s College who committed suicide in September 2010, just 10 days after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a Notre Dame football player. That case led the civil rights office of the U.S. Department of Education to launch a seven-month investigation of Notre Dame that last summer resulted in a settlement agreement.
The Seeberg case is awful enough, but according to a former school administrator whose own daughter says she was raped 10 years ago, “They”—Notre Dame—”do a poor job in general.” The takeaway from the NCR story—written by Melinda Henneberger, a political reporter for theWashington Post and a 1980 Notre Dame graduate—is that Seeberg wasn’t the first woman to be put through the university’s meat grinder after making a sexual-assault accusation. And judging by Henneberger’s reporting, she won’t be the last.

  18. for 1 they did suspend him against clemson. From a legal standpoint – the rape never happened, a robbery never occured – it was petty theft (adult citation received for it). How many students shout profanity at colleges? millions-hell even my professors used profanity. I would love to see a school monitor and control about 50,000 students, as well as faculty and staff. What other behavior has he emitted? dancing and just being a goofball or speaking in class/at games? Everyone has a different perception, but that doesn’t make it fact. We see what we want to see. Mine is no different. But from a legal point of view–your perception is flawed.

  19. Not true !!!!!! You have no idea just running your mouth . Hey i have a idea why dont you read the Police report and shut your PIE HOLE until you do……

  20. Dave…oh…absolutely it does…but FSU can’t control UF sucking(oh wait…that’s a SEC team) and Miami being mediocre…and Louisville losing Teddy Bridgewater….I was just stating the obvious really…that it’s highly unlikely that FSU will lose prior to the playoffs….

  21. It appears that KelvinHunt has a least one loyal reader…..YOU. Is the loser the guy who writes the article or the one who comes on and reads it, then complains? YOU decide.

  22. No , most of these guys don’t belong in prison. You only hear about the negative stuff these guys do because of who they are. You probably live next to someone who has done more crime than these players do……but ESPN is not spying on your neighbors and waiting for a ‘mistake’.

  23. J.W is a hood rat any way you cut it… B.K incident Crab Legs Incident.. Standing up on his soapbox for all staff, students & other various faculty members within earshot & screaming from the bottom of his innocent little lungs, and I quote ” FUCK THAT BITCH RIGHT IN THE PUSSY ” Even if it’s not that a woman was raped ( & I’m not saying either way but when a girl says rape the benefit of the doubt as it should automatically leans her direction ) at the least a sexual assault did occur.. Because that’s what ( not black men ) but punks that think crab legs & cokes at the burger king are free & standing up in the middle of a crowd & yelling his obscene vulgar statement is cool because I’m ENTITLED TO DO SO… IT’S MY GOD GIVEN RIGHT. Not because he’s black, because he’s f’ing spoiled rotten & thinks anything that pops into his narrow ass imagination will go with praise & not punishment…ENTITLED
