ufc fight night 50UFC Fight Night 50 takes place this evening at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard, Conn., and will broadcast live on FOX Sports 1 starting with the prelims at 7 p.m. ET and the main card at 10 p.m. ET.

Headlining the card is a match-up between top ranked middleweights Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Gegard Mousasi. Also, heavyweight sluggers Ben Rothwell and Alistair Overeem square off in the co-headliner. Another notable bout on the main card features lightweight submission specialists Michael Chiesa vs. Joe Lauzon.

145 lbs: Chas Skelly vs. Sean Soriano

Round 1 – Skelly with a body lock, looking for the takedown. Gets it after some work. Soriano scrambles to his feet, now carrying one Skelly on his back. Skelly eventually drags him back to the ground and is looking for the choke. Soriano rolls over to top position now, inside full guard and dropping punches. Skelly looks for an armbar, then goes for a leg. Soriano gets his leg free, but now Skelly is again on his back, body triangle locked on and looking for the choke. Soriano spins and gains top control before the bell. PMN scores it 10-9 for Skelly.

Round 2 – Nice punch combo from Soriano, then a leg kick. Skelly shoots in looking desperate, stuffed, and eating more punches. Left hook from Skelly. He gets another body lock takedown, but ref halts the action due to a low blow from Skelly during the takedown. They start back on the ground, Skelly on top. Soriano gives up his back as Skelly looks for the choke. Skelly now in full mount and dropping punches. Soriano gives up his back again, Skelly looking for the choke. PMN scores it 10-9 for Skelly.

Round 3 – Soriano stuffs a takedown and is scoring on the feet. Skelly with a right hand and takes Soriano down with a single leg. He takes Soriano’s back once again and is looking for the choke. Soriano ends up on top inside guard and dropping ground and pound. Skelly goes for an armbar, then a leg as Soriano escapes. Skelly moves to side mount, then full mount. Soriano gives up his back and Skelly locks on a body triangle, looking for the choke. Back to full mount and Skelly drops elbows and punches. PMN scores the round 10-9 and the fight 30-27 for Skelly… giving him his second UFC win in as many weeks.

135 lbs: Chris Beal vs. Tateki Matsuda

Round 1 – Matsuda takes the center first, landing a couple leg kicks, then a left. Another leg kick, but Beal puts him on his back, passes to half guard. Matsuda scrambles and gains top control in side mount. Matsuda is cut though from an earlier elbow from Beal. Matsuda briefly gets a crucifix and lands a couple shots. Beal scrambles to his feet and greets Matsuda with some heavy punches. Big body kick from Matsuday. Ref stops the action to check Matsuda’s cut. They let it go. Beal stuffs a takedown. Matsuda ducks into a fist. But then lands a couple big leg kicks. Another one. Beal checks the next one. Matsuda lands the next one. Beal checks the next one. Leg kick from Beal, who is now cut on his nose. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Matsuda.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Matsuda. Beal with a punch combo. Another leg kick from Matsuda. Beal lands a knee as Matsuda clinches up. BIG leg kick from Matsuda. Overhand right from Matsuda, Beal counters with his own right. Another overhand right from Matsuda. Beal fires back. Nice jab from Matsuda. Beal’s mobility is suffering from taking 18 leg kicks thus far. And he takes another one. Beal with a punch combo and knee. Nice right from Matsuda. He’s hunting Beal. Body kick from Matsuda. Again. Right counter shot from Beal. He lands another. Jab from Matsuda. Body lock takedown from Matsuda, but Beal ends up on top in full mount. Now in half guard Beal dropping elbows and punches. Only 30 seconds left though. Beal ends postured up throwing shots — a little too late though. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Matsuda.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Matsuda, again. Overhand left from Matsuda. Leg kick. Nice right from Matsuda.  Beal is able to counter a takedown and ends up on top. Matsuda gives up his back. Beal in full mount now and landing punches. Matsuda scrambles to top but gets reversed and Beal is inside guard. Beal moves to half guard. Now inside full guard. Beal trying to work the ground n pound as Matsuda holds on. Under a minute to go. Matsuda gives up his back and gets to his feet. Beal takes him right back down, knee from Beal as Matsuda gets back up, looking for the single. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Beal but the fight 29-28 for Matsuda.

185 lbs: Chris Camozzi vs. Rafael Natal

Round 1 – They trade kicks to start. Front kick from Natal. Leg kick from Camozzi. Big inside leg kick from Camozzi. Big right hook and a left from Natal. Camozzi fires back. Big inside leg kick from Camozzi. Another. Right left combo from Natal, clinches up against the cage. Camozzi breaks out. Right hook Camozzi. Takedown from Natal. Camozzi gets to a knee then feet. Natal hanging on him with a body lock. Knee from Camozi, then he gets underhooks. Natal breaks free. Natal presses him to the cage after a brief exchange. Natal breaks free to the center. Camozzi with a leg kick. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Natal.

Round 2 – They trade leg kicks. Camozzi with more inside leg kicks forces Natal to switch stances. He presses Natal to the cage, lands an elbow on the break. Natal catches a leg and puts Camozzi on his back, but he is able to get back up fairly quick. After some clinch work it moves back to the center of the Octagon and Natal shoots for the single. Camozzi stuffs it. Clinch fighting against the cage now. Natal breaks free and they trade kicks before the bell. Neither fighter did much damage in this round. It was a toss up.

Round 3 – Leg kick Natal. Camozzi with an inside leg kick. Natal with another. Right counter from Camozzi scores. Natal goes for the body, shoots, stuffed. Camozzi backs him to the cage and lands a punch combo. Clinched. Inside leg kick from Camozzi. Natal shoots in from the outside, stuffed easily. Camozzi with a punch combo, leg kick, more punches as Natal retreats. Natal shoots, presses Camozzi to the cage. Knee from Camozzi finds its mark on the chin of Natal. Nice body kick from Camozzi and a left hand. Back to the clinch as Natal is looking for the takedown. Camozzi tees off with punches as Natal tries to escape. Camozzi presses him against the cage with about 30 seconds left.They trade a few punches and Camozzi lands a leg kick and goes for a flying knee before the bell. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Camozzi. Fight could go either way.

Round 1 – Right hand from Damm. Iaquinta with a body shot. Big inside leg kick from Iaquinta. Big body kick from Damm. Left hand from Iaquinta. Body shot from Iaquinta, then a leg kick. Another leg kick. Jab from Damm. Left hook from Iaquinta. Inside and outside leg kicks. Body shot and leg kick from Iaquinta. Right from Damm. Left hand. Left hook counter from Iaquinta. Right hand. One two, body shot. Damm shoots, stuffed. He eats a big right from Iaquinta that sends him retreating. Jab and a left from Iaquinta before the bell. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Iaquinta.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Iaquinta. Another one, to the back leg. Nice right from Iaquinta. Left from Damm. They trade big punches, Camozzi getting the better of the stand up now. Nice leg kick from Iaquinta. Jab to the body and head. Nice jab. Damm with his own jab. Iaquinta looking for the big one. Switches it up with a body kick. Big right from Iaquinta. Jab. Front kick from Damm. One two from Iaquinta, body shot. Nice one two to the body from Iaquinta. His hands looking really nice tonight. Double jab from Iaquinta, then lands a head kick that rocks Damm. Iaquinta patiently hunting as Damm retreats. Seems recovered. Damm shoots in for a single. Iaquinta stuffs it. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Iaquinta.

Round 3 – Body kick from Iaquinta. Leg kick. Body shot. Right to the head. Big right from Iaquinta drops Damm. Iaquinta walks away to let him up. Ref makes him get up. Damm lands a couple big rights as they slug it out. Iaquinta picking his shots and hurts him, Damm goes down and Iaquinta finishes him off with a big elbow. Great showing and heart from Damm though. That win reminds me of Chuck Liddell. He would take shots to give shots and would seemingly always come out the winner. Of course you can’t do that forever, but it sure is exciting. Iaquinta with the finish!

125 lbs: John Moraga vs. Justin Scoggins

Round 1 – They trade kicks to start. Scoggins with a well-timed takedown. Moraga looking for a guillotine. Scoggins pulls his head out, inside full guard. Elbow off his back from Moraga. Scoggins tries working from the top but is unable to really get anything going until he briefly gets full mount and Moraga grabs his neck with a guillotine attempt again. Scoggins passes to side mount and Moraga lets his neck go. Moraga gets to his feet as Scoggins looks for his back. Side kick to the thigh knocks Moraga down. He gets up but Scoggins scores another takedown before the bell. PMN scores it 10-9 for Scoggins.

Round 2 – Spinning back kick from Scoggins, then scores a takedown. Moraga once again locks his neck up with a guillotine and surprisingly Scoggins taps out. That has to suck for Scoggins who was dominating this fight.

155 lbs: Michael Chiesa vs. Joe Lauzon

Round 1 – Lauzon gets a takedown early after catching a leg. Chiesa back to his feet but Lauzon stays on him with a body lock. Presses Chiesa to the cage, Chiesa turns him around. They fight in the clinch for a moment. Back to the center. Body kick from Chhiesa. Inside leg kick from Chiesa, lands a couple right hands. Lauzon clinches up looking for the takedown, Chiesa turns him around, and eventually gets Lauzon down. Chiesa takes his back, Lauzon scrambles and takes Chiesa’s back with both hooks in and landing shots. Under a minute to go. Scramble to the feet where they trade shots, Chiesa finishes strong with kicks and punches. Great fight! Lauzon going to get another POTN bonus if this keeps up! PMN scores the round 10-9 for Lauzon.

Round 2 – Left from Chiesa. Huge body kick. Lauzon fires back with punches but gets tagged with a counter hook. Knee to the body from Chiesa. One two from Lauzon, Chiesa presses him to the cage. Lauzon catches a knee attempt and dumps Chiesa. Lauzon goes for a rolling kimura, but Chiesa escapes to his feet. Lauzon staying on him with punches, holding half a Thai plum. A bloody Chiesa now fires back with a huge body kick. Ref calls time to let the doctor check this horrible cut over his right eye. They stop the fight and rightly so, it looked VERY bad. I’ll post a pic below.

265 lbs: Derrick Lewis vs. Matt Mitrione

Round 1 – This is a fight Lewis asked for. The big boys up. Someone is going to sleep I do believe. Mitrione with a punch and a high kick, both partially blocked. Lewis then runs right into the right fist of Mitrione as he’s coming in with a punch and goes down hard where Mitrione finishes him off. Be careful what you ask for Derrick Lewis. Boom!

265 lbs: Alistair Overeem vs. Ben Rothwell

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Front kick and overhand right from Reem. Front kick to the knee. Looking sharp and fast. Jumping knee to the mid section. Another knee, body kick. Overhand right. Rothwell being patient. Leg kick from Reem. Uppercut from Rothwell wobbles Overeem as his knees turn to jelly. He clinches for the recovery. Kicks Rothwell’s knee. Big knee to body again from Reem, then a body kick. Rothwell lands a big overhand right and Overeem goes down. Rothwell follows up with punches and Reem does nothing to defend and forces the stoppage. Don’t ever sleep on Big Ben! Every punch counts for him. He threw two punches and they both hurt Overeem badly. WOW! Reem has now been knocked out in 3 of his last 4 fights. That’s not good.

185 lbs: Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza vs. Gegard Mousasi

Round 1 – Mousasi calm as always, stuffs the takedown attempt, and flicking a jab. Jacare shoots again, presses Mousasi to the cage. Jacare looking for trip. Ends up dumping Mousasi with a double leg, now on top in half guard. Jacare with a couple knees to the body as he gets an arm around the neck of Mousasi. Mousasi looking for the triangle, lands an up kick. Mousasi still in half guard on top. Under a minute to go. Mousasi lands an elbow off his back. Jacare with a hammerfist. Jacare looking for a kimura in the final 10 seconds. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Jacare.

Round 2 – Jab from Mousasi, then a right. Left hook from Jacare. Another right hook catches Mousasi behind the head. Then a left hook. Jacare lands a knee and a front kick that seems to stun Mousasi. Jacare then scores a takedown, taking top control in half guard. Jacare controlling but not able to do much, lands a hammerfist during a scramble. Mousasi holding him close and defending well. Jacare postures up, moves to side mount. Jacare looking for a kimura. Mousasi in trouble but so far defending it. Under 10 seconds to go and Mousasi gets free of immediate danger before the bell. PMN scores the round 10-9 Jacare.

Round 3 – Jacare breathing hard between rounds. Mousasi flicking the jab. Left from Jacare, right from Mousasi as they continue to trade. Brief clinch and knee from Jacare. More jabs from Mousasi. Right and left hook from Jacare. More jabs from Mousasi but Jacare lights him up with another hook and stuns Mousasi long enough for Jacare to put him on his back. Mousasi scrambles to his feet. Clinch. Right from Mousasi as he gets some distance and flicks the jab. Right from Mousasi, more jabs. Jacare shoots. Elbow from Mousasi to the side of the head. Ref wants Jacare to work. He scores the takedown with a trip. He postures up with some hammerfists. Now jumps on a guillotine and Mousasi is forced to tap out or go to sleep. Jacare avenges a loss to Mousasi that took place 6 years ago. Well played sir. Domination.
