hulk hogan

Hulk Hogan is a legend and the biggest reason the WWF grew in its infancy. In WCW he put them in the limelight and helped them win the Monday Night Wars for a few years. Those are two great things to say about Hulk Hogan, but there is another side to the legend. One that has come to light gradually as wrestling “shoot” interviews have become more popular, and wrestlers don’t fear for their jobs by divulging backstage information.

Hogan is despicable when it comes to maintaining his image even when he is now an over the hill, broken down shadow of himself. Rumors are circulating now about him actually wanting to be the one to defeat Rusev. Trust me Hogan no one wants to see you wrestle any more than they want to see Ric Flair. Stay retired and let the youth shine – if you can.

Hogan has abused his creative control clause in his contract so many times it hurts. The fact that the Rock beat him clean at Wrestlemania 18 was a miracle. The Rock has a massive ego as well, but he was the rightful winner of this match. A red hot superstar in his prime versus a legend who was over the hill – and Hogan still argued backstage he should have won the match. He finally conceded because of the Rock’s star power. It’s moments like these that make wrestling fans sick. Especially #1 on this list.

3. Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels, Summerslam 2005

So here’s the deal, Shawn Michaels is the greatest in ring storyteller of all time in the WWE. There are others who are really close, but he is the best. In 2005 Shawn and Hogan were set to face each other in a series of 3 matches, and of course Hogan decided he should win the first and there would “probably” be two more matches if he could fit them in. Michaels felt he was the better wrestler and that Hogan should concede that fact. What happened was one of the funniest matches in history. Upset about Hulk’s refusal to guarantee Shawn a win in a rematch and the mere fact that Hogan refused to lose to him sent him over the edge. Michaels over sold every move and it was awesome.

2. Halloween Havoc 1994, Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair

Ric Flair has always been a company man when it came down to it. Arguably the greatest performer in WCW history, Ric was forced to stand in Hulk’s shadow by WCW brass. They saw Hogan’s arrival in WCW for what it was, legitimacy for the company.

They feuded so many times, but this one really shows what a douche Hulk is. In this match the red hot heel Flair put up his career, which is a babyface move. Hogan put up his career, which was ignorant because Hogan was defending the championship and no one thought Hogan would retire. Even the dumbest marks knew he was the WCW’s gravy train. Why is that a big deal? It squashed that feud and it allowed Hogan more control of his career than ever before. He saw the opportunity with Nash and Hall’s success and decided to ride their wave of cool villainy. Once again he was stealing the spotlight. Ric Flair has been screwed over so many times, mostly by Hogan.

Hogan won. Flair’s retirement lasted a few months. His comeback lasted two decades.

1. Starrcade 1997, Hulk Hogan vs. Sting

This is the biggest piece of garbage that Hogan ever crapped out. Sting was the hottest wrestler on the planet, the coolest character on the planet, and was a part of the best theatrical story line in wrestling history. So what does Hulk do? He secretly speaks to the referee who was supposed to fast count while Hogan was pulling the tights – WRONG.

Hulk Hogan tells him not to, and to make it a slower count so it is obvious he defeats the rightful winner, and maintains his status as the big dog. The idea was for Bret Hart to come out and call out the referee for making it a slow count, but now it looked like he just came out and hit an innocent referee because he didn’t like the outcome.

He wasted months of build-up and he essentially killed his image in the process. Hogan is a waste of space and is now only forgiven by hardcore fans for letting them down at this event.

The finish is at the end of the highlights.
