ufc fight night 47“UFC Fight Night 47: Bader vs. Saint Preux” takes place this evening from Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. The main event features a match-up between two top 10 light heavyweights, Ryan Bader and Ovince Saint Preux. OSP remains unbeaten inside the Octagon. Will Bader be the one to derail the rise of this former University of Tennessee linebacker?

In the co-headliner, Gray Maynard takes on Ross Pearson in lightweight action.

UFC Fight Night 47 round-by-round updates:

135 lbs: Frankie Saenz vs. Nolan Ticman

Round 1 – Ticman with a body kick, Saenz times it for a takedown. Nice right by Ticman as it goes back to the feet. Another right from Ticman. Then a ody kick. Saenz looks for the big overhand right but misses; is landing some nice leg kicks in the round though. Big leg kick from Ticman. Left hook from Saenz. They trade kicks. Ticman lands the uppercut. Saenz with a couple knees to the body. Saenz pressures, trips up Ticman for the takedown and ends on top throwing punches. Ticman’s round said Saenz won the round. That’s debatable.

Round 2 – Left hook to the body from Ticman. Saenz looks for the takedown, picks Ticman up and throws him down but he’s right back up. Leg kick inside from Saenz as he puts on the pressure, lands a left hook and a knee, pressing Ticman to the cage. Knees to the thighs from the back, holding a body lock. They square up and Ticman gets off with a couple nice punches. Saenz fires back, teeing off on Ticman against the cage. Ticman goes down and Saenz jumps on his back (no hooks), lands a few shots before the bell. PMN sees it 10-9 Saenz.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Saenz. Saenz pressuring, left hook, leg kick, jumping knee, changes levels for the takedown. Goes for the RNC, but Ticman gets free and is looking for a single. Back to the feet, tied up against the cage. Couple big elbows from Saenz before scoring another takedown. Ticman back up, Saenz hanging on from behind, lands a couple punches, an elbow. Now pressing Ticman to the cage, landing knees, more elbows, just battering Ticman against the cage. Right to the head, one to the body. Ticman escapes to the center. Ticman looking exhausted. Saenz scores another takedown, tries to take the back, but they slug it out in the clinch before the bell. PMN sees it 10-9 for Saenz, and the fight also for Saenz.

Solid win for Saenz in his UFC debut.

185 lbs: Sam Alvey vs. Tom Watson

Round 1 – Leg kick from Watson. Alvey looking to counter as Watson backs him to the cage. Left from Alvey. Inside leg kick from Watson. Outside leg kick. Several more leg kicks, inside and out. Body kick from Watson. Goes high with the next one, then low. Uppercut from Alvey drops Watson, but he’s right back up in the clinch. Nice left hook from Watson stuns Alvey. Alvey breathing hard, probably suffering from first time UFC jitters. Watson with a leg kick and a nice right. Alvey with a couple knees before the bell. PMN scores it 10-9 Watson.

Round 2 – Watson takes the center, picks up with the leg kicks right away. Head kick just skims the face of Alvey. Nice right from Watson. Left counter from Alvey. Leg kick Watson. Again. Alvey with a left right combo. Clinch, elbow and a couple left hooks from Watson put Alvey on the retreat. Alvey with practically no footwork. Very flat footed. More leg kicks from Watson. Right hook counter from Alvey, he blitzes with a big punch combo, but Watson just shrugs his shoulders after the blitz. Leg kick, left hand from Watson. PMN scores it 10-9 for Watson.

Round 3 – Watson in trouble after Alvey fires off a huge flurry. He survives for now. Alvey lands three more. Watson firing back as they clinch against the cage.He seems okay for now. Leg kick from Watson. Alvey stalking now. Right hand. Watson lands a one two. Left from Alvey, again. Watson with the counter. Alvey has a touch chin, he’s taken some shots, but so has Watson in this round. Big right from Watson. Lead right hook from Alvey. Watson shoots in for the takedown, stuffed. Great round of action. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Alvey, but the fight 29-28 for Watson.

135 lbs: Sara McMann vs. Lauren Murphy

Round 1 – McMann shoots for the single, picks up the leg and puts Murphy on her back. Murphy landing elbows off her back to the side of McMann’s head. McMann inside full guard. McMann trying to work the ground and pound but Murphy doing a good job of stifling it. McMann lands a couple elbows from top. Murphy actually landing quite a bit more strikes from her back than McMann is from top. McMann able to get off a few shots before the bell. I guess you gotta give it to McMann for the control factor, but it wasn’t pretty.

Round 2 – Big right hand from Murphy, clinched against the cage. After some exchanges, McMann scores a big takedown. Murphy with a nice elbow off her back. McMann passes to half guard. McMann trying to pass to side mount. Nice elbows from Murphy off her back. Ref stands them up. Leg kick from McMann. Shoots, stuffed. She presses Murphy to the cage. Knee to the body, again. Scores the takedown, landing in side mount. Murphy with elbows to the side of the head. PMN scores it 10-9 for McMann.

Round 3 – Nice right from McMann. Jab from Murphy. Leg kick from McMann. Another. Right from McMann. Murphy fires back with a one two. McMann finishes off a single leg takedown but eats several hammerfists in the process, and Murphy is right back to the feet, landing some knees along the way. Right from McMann. Takedown from McMann. Murphy puts some elbows to the side of her head as she tries to get to her feet. McMann still holding the leg but doing nothing else. Murphy escapes to her feet. McMann with a jab and leg kick. Murphy also scores with a punch. PMN scores the round 10-9 and the fight 30-27 for McMann.

125 lbs: Jussier Formiga vs. Zach Makovsky

Round 1 – Inside leg kick from Makovsky. Formiga gets his back standing, goes to the ground, Formiga ends up on the bottom with Makovsky inside his full guard. Formiga is able to get back up and score another takedown, this time taking top position with half guard and working the ground and pound. PMN scores it 10-9 for Formiga.

Round 2 – Nice couple lefts from Makovsky as it nears the 3:00 mark. Formiga takes Makovsky’s back while standing, one hook in, landing some elbows to the side of the head. Makovsky goes to his knees, rolls to his back. Formiga locks on the body triangle and is looking for the choke with about 90 seconds to go. Makovsky is able to hold off the choke but Formiga remains on his back the rest of the round. PMN scores it 10-9 Formiga.

Round 3 – Makovsky having trouble getting inside with his strikes. Formiga gets a bodylock takedown but lands on bottom. Makovsky inside full guard with 3 minutes to go. Lands an elbow. Stands and dives in, landing a left. He stands over him again, passes to side mount very briefly, stands back up, moves inside full guard. Nice right hand from Makovsky, then a left or two. Then an elbow, body, body head shots. Makovsky stands up, looking for the big one to finish. Formiga gets up and is looking for a single. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Makovsky, but the fight 29-28 for Formiga.

145 lbs: Robbie Peralta vs. Thiago Tavares

Round 1 – Featherweight debut for Tavares. Peralta showing a jab. Tavares shoots and gets Peralta down with a single leg takedown. Now looking for his back, Peralta back on his feet, but gets drug down with Tavares locked in with both hooks. Flattens him out and unloading punches. Peralta in serious trouble here. Peralta now on his back, Tavares in full mount. Tavares postures up with a couple nice right hands, elbows, hammerfists and more punches. Peralta gives up his back, Tavares with both hooks in landing punches, locks on the choke and Peralta taps out. Complete domination.

265 lbs: Shawn Jordan vs. Jack May

3Round 2 – Left hook from May opens Jordan up. May tees off with several big punches as Jordan covers up and withstands the storm, then scores a takedown. Jordan working the ground and pound from half guard. Jordan gets full mount. May uses the cage to push off, Jordan gets to side mount, drops a short elbow. Jordan in half guard now, then back to full mount. He tries to posture up with punches before the bell. PMN sees the round 10-9 for Jordan.

Round 3 – Jordan with another takedown. Takes May’s back and unleashes a flurry of punches. Now an elbow and more punches, and hammerfists. May just covering up. The ref warns May he needs to do something. He can not, and the ref stops it.

170 lbs: Seth Baczynski vs. Alan Jouban

Round 1 – Leg kick from Jouban. Baczynski circling. Leg kick again, but eats a left from Baczynski. Inside leg kick from Jouban. Baczynski drops him with a left hook, but he recovers and is right back up. Takedown from Baczysnki. He lands a couple shots from inside guard before Jouban gets back to his feet. Nice exchanges going on, both guys landing some good shots. Nice punch combo from Jouban hurts Baczynski, then lands a left shovel hook to the chin that turns Baczynski’s lights out. Wow! Impressive comeback by Jouban. Fight of the night so far!

185 lbs: Tim Boetsch vs. Brad Tavares

Round 1 – Boetsch shoots, stuffed. Tavares presses him to the cage. Knee and attempted judo throw from Beotsch. Tavares with an elbow on the break. Boetsch clinches, Tavares with underhooks puts him against the cage. Nice right elbow from Tavares that cuts Boetsch. Another elbow. Another on the break. Right from Tavares. Beotsch wipes the blood out of his eye. Right uppercut from Tavares. Boetsch gets a takedown and lands a right, but Tavares back up with a bodylock from behind. Putting knees to the body against the cage. PMN scores the round 10-9 Tavares.

Round 2 – They trade right hands. Tavares presses him to the cage. Backs out. They wrestle in the clinch for a bit, Tavares controlling the positioning. Ref separates them. Boetsch drops him with a big left during an exchange. Tavares gets back up and tries to escape but Boetsch stays on him, smelling the blood, misses a head kick, then lands a right hook that turns drops Tavares hard. He follows up and the ref stops the assault. The crowd goes insane for the Maine fighter making an incredible comeback reminiscent of his win over Yushin Okami in 2012. That was a much needed win for The Barbarian who had lost 3 of his last 4 coming in tonight. Great win for a 3-to-1 underdog.

155 lbs: Ross Pearson vs. Gray Maynard

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Left lead hook from Maynard. Right from Maynard. Maynard shoots for the takedown and gets Ross to his knees against the cage. Pearson back up, clinched. Couple body shots from Gray, but Pearson fires back with a left hook. Gray’s hands low and he eats a lead left hook. Inside leg kick from Pearson. Pearson stalking. Jab from Pearson. Jab from Maynard, fakes the shot, lands a left then scores a takedown. Pearson gets up quickly. Front kick and body kick from Pearson before the bell. PMN scores it 10-9 for Pearson.

Round 2 – Maynard clinches up against the cage. Knee and an elbow from Pearson on the break. Jab from Maynard. Body hook. Big right from Pearson stuns Maynard, who walked right into it with hands down. He follows that with a left hook that drops Maynard, then finishes him off. Big win for Pearson and a big loss for Maynard, who has now been knocked out in four of his last five fights. That’s probably it for “The Bully” inside the Octagon.

205 lbs: Ovince Saint Preux vs. Ryan Bader

Round 1 – OSP looking super relaxed and comfortable. Leg kick Bader. Low hands from OSP. Takedown from Bader, in side mount. OSP back up as Bader was unable to get anything going. High kick from OSP scores. Left counter hook from Bader after OSP misses. Left straight. Bader shoved aside on the shot. Nice left counter from Bader snaps the head back. Bader scores with a shot and OSP lands in return. Takedown by Bader right before the bell. PMN scores it 10-9 for Bader.

Round 2 – OSP shoves aside the takedown attempt and misses some big punch attempts. Left hook from OSP. Jab from Bader. Huge body kick from OSP. Front kick from OSP. One two from OSP. Right from Bader. Bader shoots in, stuffed. Left from OSP. Left from OSP. Leg kick Bader. Another left from OSP, then a left hook when Bader clinches. Left hook. Bader shoots, but stuffed and gets put on his back. Bader gets up but eats two lefts in the process. Bader catches a takedown before the bell. PMN sees it 10-9 for OSP.

Round 3 – OSP looking for the big left hook bomb. Just missing as he backs Bader up. Right from Bader, then gets the takedown. OSP right back to his feet though. Bader with a body lock takes OSP back down, in side mount. Ref tells Bader he can’t just lay on him. OSP gets up. Bader lands a right, dumps OSP back down with a double leg. Inside full guard. Elbow from Bader. Body shots. OSP gets to his feet. Tries to hit the switch. No dice. Bader hanging on for dear life, pressing OSP to the cage. He backs out before the bell, landing a right. PMN scores it 10-9 Bader.

Round 4 – OSP with a left. OSP charges with punches. Bader with a brief takedown, but he’s back up. OSP hands down, not respecting Bader’s punching power it seems. OSP scores, then stuffs the shot. Jab from OSP. Body shot from OSP. Bader shoots, stuffed. Knee to the body from Bader on the way up. Bader scoops the double leg. Bader with some hammerfists. OSP gets to his feet as Bader hangs on a body lock from the back. Tries to pick him up for a suplex, gets it on the second attempt. One minute to go. Bader flattens OSP on his back, on top in half guard. OSP talking to him, body shot from Bader. OSP gets to his feet Bell. PMN scores it 10-9 Bader.

Round 5 – Coach Eric Turner is pissed and gives OSP instruction to break his arm and finish this fight. High kick from OSP. Nice left from OSP. OSP with a takedown, takes side control. Bader gets to his knees. OSP with a front headlock. Bader to his feet and gets a trip takedown. Bader now on top in half guard. OSP gets up and gets the takedown on Bader, who is now bleeding from an earlier elbow. Bader up, looking for the takedown, eats a couple elbows. Bader just holding on here. OSP stuffs two takedowns in the final 10 seconds. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Bader and the fight 49-46 for Bader. That was the only thing Bader had going for him here, lay and pray.
