rory_macdonald_ufc174UFC officials have announced the main event bout for the upcoming UFC Fight Night Halifax event that’s slated for October 4. The event will take place at the Scotiabank Centre and will be headlined by the welterweight scrap between Rory MacDonald and Tarec Saffidine.

MacDonald (17-2) is coming off a dominant unanimous decision win over Tyron Woodley in his last outing at UFC 174 in June. MacDonald is one of the top welterweights in the world, and is on the short list of fighters that could challenge for the title with a win over Saffiedine. He is (7-1) since 2011, with the lone loss coming via split decision against current number one contender Robbie Lawler.

Saffiedine (15-3) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Hyun Gyu Lim in his lasting outing in January. That former Strikeforce welterweight champion’s UFC debut after battling a number of injuries. Saffiedine has won five consecutive fights since 2011, and will be looking to assert himself atop the welterweight division with a win over MacDonald.
