The writing on the wall for TNA may be legitimate now. For years the wrestling company has been on the verge of closing its doors due to bad booking and business decisions. When founder Jeff Jarrett left the promotion is when it started to go downhill.

Past their prime wrestling stars (Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair) with bloated paychecks prevented the younger talent from being paid a fair share and they also came in with creative direction clauses in their contracts. This meant that they could have the final say on the outcome of matches almost all of the time. Hulk Hogan refused to lose to Jeff Jarrett at Bash at the Beach 2000 so Jarrett walked out and laid down waiting for Hogan to pin him. This is what occurs when too much power is given to employees.

Vince Russo, the man who pretty much killed WCW and exposed wrestling officially as fake, took over the duties of booking and that was the beginning of their ratings decline. It is also rumored that since Russo recently returned Spike does not want anything to do with a product that he is touching.

Owner Dixie Carter has let go some of the mainstays of TNA (AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels) in favor of guys like the Dudley’s, Kurt Angle, MVP, and Bobby Lashley in hopes of keeping themselves on TV. The problem is that while you may secure a TV contract because of a little star power that does not help if no fans tune in. At one of their non-televised shows with big names on the card – they drew in 100 fans.

Since Jeff Jarrett left the company they have eliminated the 6-sided ring, put a non charismatic Dixie Carter in front of the cameras as an authority figure, and had some of the strangest booking in the history of wrestling. Not only that, but it’s like the older wrestlers don’t care anymore. Botched moves are rampant and have been since TNA started. Check out these clips if you don’t believe us.

Table spots have always been the biggest point of fail in TNA.

Even the referees are terrible. Referee Earl Hebner accidentally counts to three by accident.

Watch a referee miss his spot to get punched and out of nowhere receives a punch from an invisible man…this is amazingly awful.

Before you watch a show we recommend that you watch this video on how to properly meditate and we dare you not to laugh at the 1:37 mark.

If your storylines are awful and your wrestlers aren’t that good…. why should we watch anyways?

Now TNA’s contract has potentially not been renewed by SpikeTV according to TMZ and Lordsofpain.net. Spike TV parent company Viacom issued the following in response to a request for comment on Spike and TNA:

“Per Viacom company policy – we don’t comment on ongoing negotiations.”

This confirms that they are still in talks, as Dixie Carter noted on her Twitter earlier. TNA executive Bob Ryder also tweeted:

“Reports are not true. Negotiations with @SpikeTV are ongoing.”

However, sources close to this site have confirmed that without the star power of a guy like Hulk Hogan it is likely not to happen. Sting is now with the WWE and so are marquee names Ric Flair, Mick Foley, RVD, and others TNA has used in the past. They have no one of that caliber to bargain with and their fate lies in the hands of the TV execs.

Here is what is being said to TNA employees according to Lordsofpain.net.

TNA has sent e-mails to their talents saying the reports of Spike TV not renewing Impact Wrestling are false. It was said on the recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that TNA officials were playing it the same they did when the sale rumors started last year. They are apparently expecting good news and will update the wrestlers when they have it.

Regarding how much money TNA has lost over the years, an exact figure is not known but as of 3 years ago, they had lost $45 million. They slowed some of their losses after that but have still been losing money.

Things definitely do not look good for TNA and here comes the icing on the cake. Rumors are flying out there about the WWE wishing to purchase their wrestling library for the WWE Network.

It was speculated on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE would likely offer to purchase TNA’s tape library if for some reason TNA couldn’t get picked up by another network. The going rate for something like that is around $500 per hour of footage. TNA has a little over 1,000 hours of just Impact Wrestling footage.

Stay tuned for more updates….

Is this the beginning of the end for TNA?

One thought on “TNA’s future now unclear, full bad news round-up”
  1. So…you know the Dixie Carter in that video is the actress…not the Dixie Carter who owns TNA, right? Also, the 6-sided ring is back. You guys should do some better research–or stick to UFC/MMA rather than delving into Pro Wrestling.
