Are you not entertained? Two of the hardest hitting welterweights threw down in the main event of UFC on FOX 12 and it didn’t disappoint. Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown showcased just how tough they are and went all five rounds in San Jose.

Lawler opened up the altercation with a big punch that rocked Brown early. It looked as if Lawler could capitalize but Brown turned the tables and put in some work of his own. Brown got Lawler down and was thinking about a submission attempt but couldn’t make anything happen. Lawler started back in and possibly hurt Brown before the round ended.

The second stanza started much like the first with Lawler striking first. These beasts stayed center cage and traded some. Brown was off the mark with a head kick but started moving forward. Brown really started to work his kicks and landed a strong one to the body of Lawler. Brown shoots and gets a takedown. Lawler got up and broke free. Lawler was able to put together a solid second round.

Brown literally kicked off the third round with a high kick that missed. He went in to for a takedown but paid for it with an elbow that opened up a cut. Lawler looked the fresher fighter as the fight progressed.  A body shot that was mistaken as a groin shot stopped the action briefly. Brown returned with a big kick to the body.Lawler finished up the round strong.

Lawler came out strong in the fourth and got Brown to the canvas. He hung out in half guard briefly. Brown maybe had a guillotine shot but not a great position. Lawler smothered Brown. As Brown was able to get to his feet he was dumped right back down. Brown tried to turn in on late in the round but his kicks weren’t landing and what punches he did land weren’t doing much.

Kick to the body of Lawler starts the final round. Brown had a sense of urgency and started mixing some elbows into his striking. Lawler put together a good combination to get Brown against the fence. Brown kept attacking despite being battered in the first four rounds. Brown threw caution to the wind and kept punching away and that made have cost him his right hand. Lawler started a comeback but it was met with an elbow. Lawler flashed a smile knowing that he was only minutes away from a victory. The fifth round ended with Brown getting knocked down and Lawler fist pumping a sure victory.

The judges saw Lawler the victor across the board. Lawler meets Johny Hendricks next for another shot at the welterweight title.
