UFC officials have announced that UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman put his title on the line against Vitor Belfort on December 6 in the main event of UFC 181. Belfort was granted a license to fight in the state of Nevada earlier today.

The event will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Weidman (12-0) is coming off his second successful title defense in his last outing at UFC 175 against Lyoto Machida, winning via unanimous decision.

Belfort (24-10) has rattled off three consecutive TKO/KO victories since moving back to the middleweight division after taking on UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones at UFC 152. Belfort defeated Dan Henderson via KO in his last outing in November 2013. Belfort did fail a drug test for elevated testosterone earlier this year which was the reason for the hearing in Nevada today. However, the commission saw no need to suspend the fighter and will allow him to compete. The UFC announced the fight shortly after Belfort was cleared to fight by the commission.
