[ads1]gina carano - comic-con 2011UFC President Dana White realizes he needs interesting challengers for UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and he’s trying to do something about it. White announced that they had signed undefeated MMA fighter and former boxing champion Holly Holm this week. Now White is turning his focus back to the former face of women’s MMA, Gina Carano.

White spoke with ESPN:

“One down, one to go,” White told ESPN.com. “I’m going to meet with Gina next week and get that f—ing thing done. Next week, man. It’s just a matter of me and Lorenzo going to jump on a plane to Los Angeles, get in a room with her and her lawyer and get this thing done.”

Notice I said they were looking for interesting challengers, not challenges. Carano (7-1) hasn’t fought since 2009, when Cris Cyborg(the biggest threat to Rousey) mowed her down on national television via TKO. Carano promptly left the sport to pursue an acting career and has had several prominent roles. However, she still remains popular with MMA fans, and the allure of a huge money fight with Ronda Rousey could be the ticket to bring her back. At least that it seems like will happen as White seems convinced that they will bring her onto the UFC roster.

The UFC is in a weird position. Carano hasn’t fought in so long, they couldn’t risk pairing her up with someone like Miesha Tate or Cat Zingano. If she lost, the huge fight with Rousey would be down the toilet. She doesn’t deserve an immediate fight with Rousey, but money talks, and that’s what will happen more than likely should they get a deal done.

Stay tuned.
