UFC officials have confirmed that featherweight Chad Mendes will challenge champion Jose Aldo for the second time at UFC 176 on August 2 in Los Angeles. The event will take place at the Staples Center and tickets will go on sale June 13.
Mendes (16-1) suffered his lone defeat against Aldo via first round KO at UFC 142 just over two years ago. However, the Team Alpha Male fighter has rattled off five consecutive wins with four of this wins coming via TKO/KO.
Aldo (24-1) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Ricardo Lamas in his last outing at UFC 169. The Brazilian has defended his UFC crown for a record six consecutive times.
This will mark the firs time the UFC has visited the Staples Center since their UFC on FOX 4 event in August 2012 headlined by Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Brandon Vera.
