Ronda Rousey

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has been relatively quite lately when it comes to rival and Invicta featherweight champion Cris Cyborg. However, that came to an end when speaking with Yahoo’s Kevin Iole in a recent interview in which the subject of fighting Cyborg came up:

“I’ve said before, I don’t care if she’s injecting horse semen into her eyeballs, I’ll fight her, but that’s just my personal decision,” Rousey said. “But I can’t make a decision for the whole division. I can’t say it’s the right thing. This girl has been on steroids for so long and [has been] injecting herself for so long that she’s not even a woman anymore. She’s an ‘it.’ It’s not good for the women’s division. It’s not good at all.

“If she comes in the UFC and I beat the [expletive] out of her and then I retire and become an action movie star, then the UFC is still going to be stuck with her. The division could die. She could ruin the whole sport. Even though it’s a fight a lot of people want to see, even if I beat the living crap out of her, it won’t be good for the sport because then she’d still be in the UFC.”

Rousey stated that she would love to fight Gina Carano who has been out of MMA since getting demolished by Cris Cyborg in 2009. She even stated that she would fight Carano at 145 pounds, a feat that she would not be willing to do to fight Cris Cyborg. Rousey spoke on the idea of fighting Carano:

“I’d be honored to fight a competitor like Gina, who is an example of what real respect and honor is in the cage,” Rousey said. “I really think with Cyborg taking all of those steroids and hormones and then going into the cage, it’s like going in with a weapon. It’s certainly very negligent, but it’s also criminal. I believe, it really is. Promoting her would be promoting that act and I think it would be wrong in every way.

“I think it should be like the Olympics. If you [expletive] up once, you’re not going to the [expletive] Olympics. There should be a zero tolerance policy where if you’re caught doing anything, you should be done [expletive] forever.”

I think it’s fair to point out that drug testing in MMA isn’t the best in the world by any means, but Cyborg has been tested and passed at least one drug test since testing positive for stanozolol in 2011. So the build up between the two best women fighter’s in the world continues. However, will we ever see these two across the cage from one another?

  1. It probably is…at that point…at least she could see where it’s coming from…:)

  2. haha this is coming from the the same person that said she would fight & BEAT HW champ Cain Velazquez!! Rousey even said she would fight Fallon Fox in case you dont know Fox used to be a MAN!! Oh but now Rousey wont fight Cyborg. Come on give me a break. Little B#$%^

  3. rousey is scared of cyborg and how does she know how long shes been on or off steroids . and she always uses the steroid excuse not to fight her. she knows cyborg will beat the shit out of her ronda dosent like to be punched in the face and cyborg hits very very hard

  4. Hey…what do you guys feel about Rousey saying she’d fight Carano at 145…but not Cyborg? lol…

  5. I don’t blame rousey. Cyborg blew her shot by confirming our suspicions of steroid abuse. Going without popping positive for a couple of years doesn’t mean she’s not using– it just means she isn’t getting caught. Look at her skull. Look at her jaw. Look at her musculature. It’s not natural.

  6. Ehh..I wouldn’t go that far as to say she’s still using…cause you could say the same for a ton of guy’s that have tested positive and still fight(Belfort, Barnett, etc).

My issue with Rousey is that she will make a statement like…she’ll fight Cyborg…then come up with all these excuses or stipulations….the Carano example is ridiculous too…of course she’d fight a girl that hasn’t fought in FIVE years…I mean…that’s a fight she should easily win…and she’d fight Carano at 145….but wouldn’t do the same for Cyborg? Yet, she says she’ll fight anybody, anytime, anywhere? Yea…ok….that’s my issue with Rousey.

  7. When she says things like this, I just want to find her, subdue her, and go Aldo “the apache” on her. “how do you get to carnage hall?? Practice!!”

  8. Rousey being the champ at 135 should dictate that Cyborg needs to be the one that needs to cut to 135 and not the other way around of Rousey coming up to 145.

  9. I agree. If Cyborg wants the fight then she needs to make the cut to 135. Rousey has no desire to go over to Invicta and take Cyborgs 145 lb belt. Cyborg wants a big money fight in the UFC. Hell Cyborg wants everything Rousey has right now. She wants the recognition, the money, and the fame. If she wants it then she needs to cut to 135 win a few fights, and then get a shot. But remember Cyborg said if she cut to 135 she would die.

  10. Ronda and friends should probably stop saying she’ll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime then…if she’s willing to give Carano a fight at 145..and not Cyborg…makes it seem like she’s running from her…

Also…the whole ‘feud’ started when Rousey was fighting at 145 and Cyborg was the champ…so…it’s not like she has never fought at 145…had she always fought at 135…then yea…I’d buy it…

  11. same floyd mayweather style just like he ducks manny pacquiao take the test issue im tired of this issue

  12. both rousey and cyborg weigh over 160 the day of the fight,, they never weigh what they weighed the day before during the weigh in..

  13. It was on MMAjunkie …See what Juan posted then see my comment. His comment was deleted mine is just gone. And banned from commenting

  14. nope, I guess not, I should refine from comments like that, just trying to have, not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings.

  15. oh gotcha. well, we don’t ban anyone here unless it’s someone spamming free ppv’s or something. And we don’t delete comments except on very rare occasions, usually for the same reason.

  16. (sorry for my English).
Maybe Ronda is a bit scared, but the question is:
would you play poker if you knew your adversary has tricked cards ?
Ronda is big and strong, and she performs excellent judo in her fights.
About Cyborg: is like Florence Griffith or Ben Johnson against Carl Lewis.
is not very difficult to see when someone is having something that is not natural.
Ronda will be the best until a “normal” woman could beat her.

  17. Become an “action movie star”, how many more Expendables are they gonna make? Stop making excuses and fight.

  18. I can’t be the only one who noticed that even Rousey didn’t have her usual absolute confidence. “Even if” is something Rousey never says. Except here. Probably because she knows she may not be able to handle Cyborg’s power and reach.
