Bellator 117 LIVE results & play-by-play

Welterweights Rick Hawn and Douglas Lima will battle for the vacant 170-pound title this evening in the Bellator 117 main event. The card also features the season 10 lightweight tournament semifinals.

Bellator 117 will air LIVE on Spike TV from Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, starting at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT). The prelims will stream live on ProMMAnow.com starting at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT).

155 lbs: Patricky Pitbull vs. Derek Campos – lightweight semifinals

Round 1 –  Leg kick from Campos. Shows a double jab. Right hook from Pitbull. Triple jab from Campos. Misses a spin kick. One two from Pitbull. Nice stiff left jab from Campos. Pitbull circles away from Campos’ punches. Leg kick Campos. Nice left to the body, right to the head from Pitbull. Counter left hook, then a right hook from Pitbull. He shoots for a single, stuffed. Leg kick, then a few left hands upstairs from Campos, then a right to the body. Leg kick Pitbull. Left hook Campos as he backs Pitbull to the cage. Nice combo to the body and head from Campos. High kick from Pitbull mostly blocked. Campos goes high with the kick and it’s blocked. Nice stiff double jab from Campos. Pretty close round.

Round 2 – Pitbull drops Campos early with a stiff left jab. Campos is able to make his way back to his feet but gets dropped again with a big overhand right. Takes full mount, Campos gives up his back and eats punches until the stoppage.

170 lbs: Karl Amoussou vs. David Gomez

Round 1 – Amoussou flashing a left jab. Nice leg kick from Gomez. Amoussou fires back one of his own, plus a punch and another leg kick. Nice one two from Amoussou. Lead left hook. Double jab and a straight right, leg kick inside. More jabs. Gomez hesitates and takes a right hand and a body kick. Front kick to the knee from Amoussou, double jab. Gomez throws a single left. Leg kick Amoussou. Gomez swings with a left hook that misses by a mile. Nice punch combo and knee from Amoussou but Gomez counters effectively with a right hand and backs Amoussou up for a moment. Nice double jab, right to the body from Amoussou. Inside leg kick and a one two follows. Leg kick from Gomez causes Amoussou to stumble into the clinch. They separate. Nice stiff left jab from Gomez knocks Amoussou off balance as he throws a low kick. Gomez with a left hook. Clinch until the bell. PMN sees it 10-9 Amoussou.

Round 2 – Body kick from Amoussou, again, and another. Another. Gomez clinches up but gets a taste of Amoussou’s judo as he ends up on his back quickly. Amoussou inside Gomez’s full guard. Amoussou rolls for a heel hook but Gomez escapes to his feet. A little dirty boxing in the clinch. Nice body jab from Gomez. Nice stiff jab upstairs from Gomez. Amoussou presses him to the cage. Body shot from Gomez, couple knees from Amoussou. Gomez escapes to the center. Nice right hand to the temple of a hesitating Amoussou. Amoussou breathing hard, eats a nice right. Amoussou fires back with a right of his own. Clinch, knee from Amoussou to the body, presses Gomez to the cage, throws another knee. They move to the center. Left jab from Gomez. Leg kick. Nice left jab. Amoussou backs him to the cage, misses a jumping knee. Back to the center. Big lead left hook and a stiff jab seem to hurt Amoussou momentarily. Gomez doesn’t capitalize, stays patient. PMN sees the round 10-9 Gomez.

Round 3 – Body kick Gomez. Amoussou looks for the trip in the clinch. Body kick Amoussou. Leg kick from Gomez is checked. Left right from Amoussou. Nice harder left from Gomez. Amoussou wings a couple slow wild punches, grabs the Thai plum, presses Gomez to the cage. He breaks free. They trade punches, both guys landing some nice combos. Amoussou presses him to the cage again. 2:30 to go in the fight. Ref wants action. Ref separates them after a low blow from Gomez. One two from Gomez. Left hook. Body shot. Amoussou presses him back to the cage, lands a knee. Nice punches from Amoussou, clinches up again against the cage. Body shots from Gomez. Dirty boxing from Amoussou with under a minute to go now. More clinch fighting from both guys. Gomez gets some distance, lands a body shot. PMN sees the round 10-9 and the fight 29-28 from Amoussou.

155 lbs: Derek Anderson vs. Marcin Held – lightweight semifinals

Round 1 – Anderson with a right. Left right from Held, he shoots in and gets Anderson on his back. Held on top in half guard. Held passes to side mount. Back to half guard now. Back to side mount and he goes for a leg lock. Anderson tries punching him to defend. Anderson defending well so far in defending. Anderson lands a couple right hands, another. Held rolls under. Anderson frees his leg and is back in half guard landing some punches. Held goes for the leg again. Twisting the heel, but Anderson is free again. Held now on top inside full guard. Held goes once again for the leg but Anderson lands a solid right hand to the face. Kind of tough round to score but I’m going with Held 10-9 as he was threatening much of the round with the submission.

Round 2 – Left hand from Held. He shoots, sprawl from Anderson. Anderson gets caught with a left and goes down to a knee. Held lands another left. He shoots, gets shoved aside to the ground. Back up. Right counter from Held. Body kick from Anderson. One two from Anderson. He’s calming down now, finding his rhythm a little more. Held slips to the ground after throwing a punch combo. Anderson lets him up. Held dives in and pulls guard, getting Anderson inside his full guard, locks up a triangle. It’s tight now and Anderson taps out. Crazy! Don’t sleep on Held! Held will now face Patricky Pitbull in the lightweight tournament finals.

170 lbs: Douglas Lima vs. Rick Hawn – welterweight championship

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Leg kick from Lima. Another. Hawn tries to counter with a right. Lima blocks it. Leg kick Lima. Jab from Lima. Front kick. Leg kick again, and a jab from Lima. Nice right from Hawn. Leg kick Lima. Calf of Hawn is bright red. Another Lima kick to the calf drops Hawn to the ground. Hawn tries to lure him in while on his back. He stands up. Another big leg kick from Lima and Hawn goes down. He covers up as Lima tries to finish with punches. Hawn looks all but done. Time. PMN sees it 10-9 Lima.

Round 2 – Hawn got cut over his left eye in that first round. Big low kick again from Lima. Another kick to the calf from Lima and Hawn goes down again. Ref lets him up. Another calf kick and Hawn goes down again. Ref lets him up. Oblique kick and a high kick from Lima that Hawn blocks but does not like. Another calf kick and Hawn is on his back. Once again the ref lets him up. One two from Lima. Calf kick. High kick from Lima blocked. Hawn goes down again from another low kick. Hawn’s cornerman Firas Zahabi throws in the towel and Lima is the new Bellator Welterweight Champion.
