UFC Fight Night 38UFC Fight Night 38: Shogun vs. Henderson II” takes place today in Natal, Brazil. Light heavyweight legends Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will battle it out in the main event as Shogun tries to get revenge for a 2011 loss to Hendo. In the co-headliner, CB Dollaway tries to put a stop to fellow middleweight Cezar Ferreira‘s unbeaten streak inside the Octagon. 

UFC Fight Night 38′s prelims will begin at 4 p.m. ET on UFC Fight Pass, moving to the FOX Sports 1 broadcast at 5 p.m. ET, then the main card on FOX Sports 1 at 7 p.m. ET.

205 lbs: Hans Stringer vs. Francimar Barroso

Round 1 – Side kick from Barroso to the body. Jab to body. Overhand right. He catches a body kick from Stringer, sweeps the back leg. Now kick the thighs of the downed Stringer. Ref lets Stringer up. Stringer lands an overhand right behind the ear and Barroso goes down with Stringer inside his guard working the ground and pound. Right elbow from Stringer. More elbows, forearms smashes and punches from Stringer. Back to the feet now, body kick from Barroso. Stringer shoots in and presses him to the cage. Clinch fighting now, Stringer uses a body lock takedown but Barroso right back up. Right from Stringer. Barroso pushes him to the cage and Stringer turns him around. Standing elbows from Stringer, pressing on Barroso. 10 seconds left. 10-9 Stringer as I see it.

Round 2 – Leg kick Barroso, again, again. Goes for another kick and Stringer presses him to the cage. Barroso turns him around, knees to the thigh. Stringer turns him around, then they separate to the center. Big body kick from Barroso. Stringer ties him up, goes for a lateral drop but ends up on the bottom with Barroso inside his full guard. Barroso trying to work the ground and pound. Stringer gets to his feet using the cage. He locks up Barroso against the cage. Barroso turns him around, looks for the trip. Stringer goes for a trip of his own, nope. They square up. Barroso with a high kick, Stringer shoots in, clinched against the cage. 1:10 to go. Left hook from Barroso. Stringer gets tagged again. Jab from Barroso, then lands an uppercut. Stringer lands a couple punches before the bell. 10-9 Barroso.

Round 3 – Leg kick Stringer. Left hook Stringer. Squared up. Leg kick from Stringer, left hook from Barroso. Nice left hook  from Barroso. Leg kick follows, but Stringer lands a nice punch combo to counter. Body kick from Barroso. Right hand Stringer. Clinched against the cage. Dirty boxing and knees from both. Ref separates them. Leg kick Stringer. Big leg kick from Barroso. Leg kick Stringer, left hook, shoots in and presses Barroso to the cage. Trade a few knees. Barroso backs out to the center. Stringer misses a one two. Barroso tries to shoot in, Stringer shrugs it off, squared back up and trading leg kicks. Barroso misses a spinning elbow. Barroso shoots, stuffed. Stringer presses him to the cage. Barroso gets of the cage and puts Stringer on his back and lands body shots. PMN sees it 10-9 for the round and 29-28 for the fight for Barroso.

170 lbs: Thiago Perpetuo vs. Kenny Robertson

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Left jab from Robertson, leg kick, then a head kick lands, but Perpetuo puts him on his back. Robertson fights back to his feet, presses Perpetuo to the cage, then gets a bodylock takedown, takes full mount. Robertson unloading punches and elbows as Perpetuo bucks up, gives up his back and Robertson locks in the rear naked choke on the bloodied Perpetuo and this fight is over. The home crowd boos Robertson for beating the Brazilian.

125 lbs: Jussier Formiga vs. Scott Jorgensen

Round 1 – Formiga gets a bodylock takedown but Jorgensen right back up and they are swinging. Uppercut from Jorgensen. Formiga misses a spinning back kick. Briefly clinched. Left from Formiga. One two. Leg kick from Jorgensen. Nice right from Formiga. Jorgensen shoots in but gets pushed back on his back. Scramble and Formiga takes his back with a body triangle locked on. Formiga softening him up with punches. Formiga locks on the rear-naked choke, cranks the neck and Jorgensen taps out. Crowd goes nuts.

185 lbs: Ronny Markes vs. Thiago “Marreta” Santos

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Nice body kick from Santos and after a delayed reaction Markes goes down from the kick which was apparently in the solar plexus. Santos follows up with big hammerfists and this fight is over folks. Santos was a huge underdog here… +600 — not to mention Markes came in 4 lbs. over weight for this fight. Biggest win of Santos’ career.

145 lbs: Rony Jason vs. Steven Siler

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Leg kick Siler. Body kick. Leg kick. Again. Right hand. Left hook. Body kick. Overhand right from Jason blocked. Leg kick Siler. Front kick. Again. Big right counter from Markes, he’s stunned, a left hook puts him down and the referee stops it as Siler is still trying to kick Jason off. Definitely a premature stoppage. That REALLY sucks.

155 lbs: Michel Prazeres vs. Mairbek Taisumov

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Big leg kick from Taisumov. Prazeres gives one back. Right hand from Prazeres, a left hook follows. Clinched up, dirty boxing. Prazeres gets a body lock takedown. Prazeres gets to full mount easily. Taisumov gets half guard. Prazeres moves to side mount, then north-south. Looking for a choke but Taisumov gets to his feet. Prazeres presses him to the cage. Prazeres gets the body lock takedown, now on top in half guard, then full  mount. He lands a nice left. Taisumov with hammerfists off his back. Prazeres looking for an armbar but Taisumov bucks out and recovers full guard. Prazeres in half guard, now full mount again. Taisumov bucks out to his feet. Referee Yamasaki then takes a point for an an illegal kick to the head while both were on the ground. The kick seemed very insubstantial and frankly that’s a weird deduction without warning. Back at it. Bell. But that point deduction could make it a 10-8 round for Prazeres.

Round 2 – Body kick from Taisumov but gets countered with a big right from Prazeres that drops him. He tries to get up, Prazeres rushes to tackle him but ends up on bottom with Taisumov inside his full guard. Prazeres goes for a triangle, but Taisumov breaks out and stands over Prazeres. Misses a diving right. Ref lets Prazeres up. Right hook from Prazeres. Side kick from Taisumov. Jab from Taisumov. Prazeres shoots in and goes for the takedown. Taisumov grabs the cage and referee Yamasaki sees it and takes yet another point. Back at it. One two from Prazeres. Leg kick Taisumov. Nice head kick from Prazeres. Overhand right. Right counter hook. Nice left hook, straight right combo from Prazeres. Nice front kick to the chin from Taisumov, glancing type blow. Head kick again from Prazeres. 10-8 for Prazeres.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Prazeres. Left counter jab from Taisumov. Nice left hook straight right combo again from Prazeres. Brief clinch. Front kick from Taisumov. Prazeres shoots, presses Taisumov to the cage. Prazeres fights for the takedown but Taisumov spins out and free. Ref warns Taisumov he will disqualify him if he grabs the cage again. I couldn’t see him grab the cage on re-watching it. Left from Taisumov. Nice uppercut follows. Right counter from Prazeres. Then a leg kick. Big right. Brief clinch. Nice one two one from Taisumov. Only 2 minutes to go though and he needs a KO to win. Prazeres shoots in and dumps Taisumov as he instinctually tries to grab the cage again. Prazeres inside his full guard. 1:00 to go and Taisumov gets to his feet. Left hook from Prazeres, then a big right hand. Clinched against the cage, Taisumov has a body lock from behind. Taisumov spins around, they separate and throw a couple more punches before the bell. PMN sees the round 10-9 and the fight 30-25 for Prazeres.

205 lbs: Fabio Maldonado vs. Gian Villante

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Leg kick Villante. Left from Maldonado but Villante scores a takedown and takes side mount. Villante looks for the crucifix position but Maldonado sees it and prevents getting his arm trapped. Maldonado scrambles to his knees, then feet, keeping one hand down and taking knees to the thighs from Villante. Villante with a body lock landing knee after knee to the thighs. Villante scores a body lock takedown, has side mount, moves to half guard. Villante moves to side mount, looking for that crucifix again. 90 seconds left. Maldonado doing a good job of defending against any damage. Villante lands a couple shots before the bell but finishes on top. PMN sees it 10-9 Villante.

Round 2 – Touch gloves. A left hook from Villante wobbles Maldonado. Villante stays calm Maldonado lands a nice one two combo. Body shot, double jab. Jab from Villante. Nice jab from Maldonado, body shot. Villante shoots, Maldonado slips out but Villante stays on him and gets him down to the ground, now looking for his back. Maldonado is up but eats a knee to the head on the way and it opens him up. Maldonado tees off with punches, lands a big body shot that backs Villante up. Villante breathing hard as Maldonado continues to stalk and score with punches. Nice boxing from Maldonado, showing nice combos. Overhand right from Villante. Maldonado has 90 seconds to turn this round around and he seems to be doing just that. More body shots from Maldonado. Villante’s hands are low. Left hook from Maldonado. Leg kick Villante. More body shots from Maldonado. Villante tries to get some distance but Maldonado knocks his mouthpiece out, lands a nice uppercut and more solid punches on the money. PMN sees it 10-9 Maldonado.

Round 3 – Maldonado working the jab. Lands a leg kick, jab, left hook. One two. Villante’s punches moving slow. Beautiful hands from Maldonado. Villante shoots, Maldonado shrugs him off, lands a couple body shots. One two on the chin. Villante shoots, stuffed, body shots to the sprawled Villante. Left hook from Maldonado, and the volume of punches continues to increase for Maldonado. Another couple big body combos, jab, jab to the body. One two. Villante lands a nice right and Maldonado tells him to bring it on. Maldonado using him as a punching bag now. Villante shoots out of desperation, no dice. Villante finally locks him up against the cage, looking for the takedown. Maldonado not having it and tees off with a one two, uppercut and Villante backs up. Leg kick. One minute to go. Huge right hook from Maldonado forces Villante to shoot again. Stuffed. Maldonado teeing off on the chin of Villante. I don’t know how he’s standing. This fight could easily be stopped on the feet but Herb Dean lets it play out. I think Villante just lost a few years of his life. PMN sees it 10-8 for Maldonado and the fight 29-27 for Maldonado.

155 lbs: Norman Parke vs. Leonardo Santos

Round 1 – Leg kick from Santos. Body kick from Parke, leg kick. Santos with a right, brief clinch. Body jab from Parke, takes a poke in the eye as brief time is called. Big body kick from Santos. Nice right counter uppercut from Santos. Brief clinch against the cage as Parke backs out. Leg kick Parke. He’s pressing. Leg kick from Santos. Left from Parke. He presses Santos to the cage. Left from Parke. Big body kick from Santos, he shoots, stuffed. Clinched against the cage, where they wrestle for position. Knee from Parke to the gut. Body kick from Parke. Parke looks for the leg as the bell sounds. Close round.

Round 2 – Leg kick Parke. Nice left uppercut from Santos. One two follows. They trade punches in the pocket. Parke presses him to the cage. Left from Parke. Santos shoots, Parke turns him around to the cage. Parke fights for the takedown but because he grabbed the shorts the ref takes a point. High kick from Parke grazes. Head kick from Santos mostly blocked. Clinched against the cage, knee from Parke to the body. Left from Parke before they separate. They trade a few punches before they’re clinched up again. Elbow from Parke. He drops levels but Santos prevents the takedown. Dirty boxing from both guys. Parke fights for the takedown but no dice. The point deduction for Parke at the best makes the round even.

Round 3 – After a few strikes, Parke clinches up again against the cage… must be aiming for that “bore of the night” bonus. The crowd boos at the lack of action I assume. The guys clinch wrestling still as we near the 3 minute mark. Parke landing the occasional punch from the clinch. Finally the ref separates them. But guess where it ends back up in .5 seconds. You guessed it… against the cage, clinched. Parke goes for a takedown but Santos stops it and we’re back to the clinch game. Ref separates them again, they trade some nice punches before… well, you know, they clinch against the cage again. I’m about to submit if one of these guys don’t. Not even going to try and score this thing.

185 lbs: C.B. Dollaway vs. Cezar Ferreira

Round 1 – Left from Ferreira, high kick. Right hand from CB backs Ferreira up. Ferreira comes back swinging but CB drops him with a big right and left hook, CB follows up with punches as Ferreira tries to go for a leg but he is done and the ref stops it. Great showing from CB, stopping the TUF Brazil 1 winner. CB has a new boxing coach and says he thinks he can make it into the top 10 this year.

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Leg kick from Shogun, he eats a counter right from Hendo. Leg kick Shogun. Leg kick Hendo. Leg kick Shogun. BIG leg kick from Shogun. Now inside. Body kick from Shogun. Leg kick from Hendo. Right body shot from Hendo. Light body kick Shogun. Couple leg kicks from Hendo. He goes for a takedown, scramble back to the feet. Leg kick Shogun. Hendo looks a a takedown, decides against it. Leg kick inside from Shogun. Body shot from Hendo, clinched, knee to the body from Shogun. Big leg kick Shogun. No checks from Hendo. Hendro drops Shogun with a left hook, he’s right back up and Hendo tries to tee off, but gets caught and goes down. Shogun trying to finish with 20 seconds to go. Hendo tries getting up but Shogun has top position, takes full mount as Hendo tries to hang on. Shogun lands another shot after the bell as the round ends. Great action… 10-9 Shogun.

Round 2 – Hendo’s corner wants him to wrestle. Stiff jab, leg kick from Shogun. Overhand right from Shogun grazes the back of the head. Big leg kick again from Shogun and Hendo is limping. Right hand behind the ear again from Shogun. Clinched against the cage, Shogun leaning on Hendo. Couple knees from Shogun before they break to the center. Shogun showing a jab. They trade in the pocket. Dan shoots in, shrugged aside. Shogun shoots in, stuffed. Hendo tries for a bodylock takedown but shrugged off again. Shogun lands a perfectly timed right uppercut drops Hendo again. Shogun now on top inside guard, trying to pass. Hendo now has full guard. 2 minutes to go. Surprised Shogun didn’t try to capitalize more on that knockdown. Shogun staying busy with just enough ground and pound to keep it from getting stood up. Hendo holding on. Ref stands them up. Hendo laying back, looking for the counter it seems. Light body kick from Shogun. PMN sees it 10-9 Shogun.

Round 3 – Leg kick inside from Shogun. Hendo whiffs a big right hand trying to counter. Couple nice rights from Hendo backs Shogun up. Shogun with the jab. Inside leg kick. Jab. Jab. Hendo shoots, stuffed, but he lands a big right hook flush on the nose of Shogun and he goes down. Hendo follows up with punches and hammerfists. The ref stops it, Shogun tries to get up but just falls backward, folding up on the ground. Amazing comeback for Hendo.
