So many people talk about he cast of The Ultimate Fighter’s first season but a mainstay from the early days has been Melvin Guillard of the sophomore season. Guillard made his UFC debut back in 2005 and had already taken over 20 fights. Since then he has earned three “knockout of the night” and one “fight of the night” bonuses. After losing to Michael Johnson at UFC Fight Night 37 it has been reported that now Guillard will be looking for work elsewhere.

Guillard definitely had his ups and downs. He was suspended in 2007 following a positive test for cocaine in a loss against Joe Stevenson. He battled through that and went 8-2 in his next 10 fights. He was on a five fight winning streak before Joe Lauzon submitted him at UFC 136. He only managed two more wins in his last 7 fights.

Guillard has nearly 50 fights to his name and finds himself a free agent. One would think that Guillard has several options. Would he be a fit in the tournament format of Bellator? Could he be in the mix against young guns Nick Newell and Justin Gaethje over at World Series of Fighting? He was cut once by the UFC but was only out for a few months but I doubt he will get a quick return this go around but his fighting days aren’t over just yet.
