UFC officials have announced that former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos will return to action at UFC 173 to take on fast rising contender Stipe Miocic. The fight will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 24, and will most likely be the co-main event.
The main event will feature the UFC middleweight title fight between champion Chris Weidman and challenger Lyoto Machida.
Dos Santos (16-3) is coming off a TKO loss at the hands of Cain Velasquez in his last fight back at UFC 166. It was the second loss to Velasquez after defeating in him their first matchup in 2011.
Miocic (11-1) is coming off a dominant unanimous decision win over former title contender Gabriel Gonzaga in his last fight back at UFC on FOX 10. Miocic has now won back-to-back fights since suffering his lone career loss against Stefan Struve.
