Maybe Nate Diaz saw Gilbert Melendez’s new UFC contract and is attempting a negotiating strategy Stockton style, because the number five-ranked UFC lightweight just requested to be released from the UFC — via Twitter:
@ufc @danawhite I would like to request to be released from the @ufc Its time for me to be on my way .. ?
— Nathan Diaz (@NateDiaz209) February 26, 2014
The 28-year-old Cesar Gracie black belt has been fighting inside the Octagon since June 2007 when he defeated Manny Gamburyan to win The Ultimate Fighter season 5. He is currently 12-7 in the UFC and is coming off a first round TKO win over Gray Maynard in November, earning “Knockout of the Night” honors. Prior to that Diaz had lost two straight, including a title fight loss to then champ Benson Henderson, and a TKO loss to Josh Thomson.
What do you think, is Diaz serious about wanting to leave, or is it all part of a Cesar Gracie master plan? And don’t they have managers for this type of thing? Oh the Diaz brothers, they never have been traditional, have they.
