roy nelson ufc 159A heavyweight match-up between Roy “Big Country” Nelson and Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira a.k.a. “Big Nog” will headline UFC Fight Night 39 on April 11 in Abu Dhabi, UFC officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Between May 2012 and April 2013 Nelson (19-9) scored consecutive first round knockout victories over Dave Herman, Matt Mitrione, and Cheick Kongo. Most recently though “Big Country” has been on a two-fight skid, dropping one-sided decisions to Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.

Nogueira (34-8-1, 1 NC) has literally been up-and-down in his career since winning back-to-back victories in his first two UFC fights (against Heath Herring and Tim Sylvia) back in 2007 and 2008. He is 5-4 in his UFC tenure thus far.

“Big Nog” only fought once in 2012, scoring a second round submission win over Dave Herman. He also only fought once in 2013, dropping a submission loss to opposing TUF Brazil Coach Fabricio Werdum.

UFC Fight Night 39 will be the organization’s first return to Abu Dhabi since UFC 112 in April 2010 when middleweight champ Anderson Silva defended his title in a highly lackluster performance against Demian Maia in the main event.
