UFC 171 adds yet another solid fight in support of the light heavyweight title main event between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira. ESPN reported earlier that Jake Shields will meet Hector Lombard in Dallas.
Lombard and Shields are both coming off wins. The former Bellator middleweight champion Lombard has moved to 170 pounds and looked great against Nate Marquardt earlier this year. He sits at 2-2 inside the UFC. His wins have been spectacular, two first round finishes. He fell short in two lackluster performances.
You’d have to go back to September 2011 to find the last loss for Jake Shields. He is most recently coming off a split decision win in Brazil over Demian Maia. Shields is currently ranked 6th in the welterweight division and has dominant grappling skills.
